dealing with the public in your job
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:27:22 PM »
I've been in the parts business for many years and just like anything else over the years this business has changed drastically. And more times than not it's for the worst. I'm aware that without customers I would not get a paycheck witch means no SOH4's in the garage :( And I've heard the saying  The Customer May Not Always Be Right But He Is Never Wrong more times than I can count. But sometimes no matter how polite and nice you try to be, some people are just total A$$holes and its all you can do to hold back from telling them to go F@#$ themselves and hitting them square in the mouth >:(  I know my tolerance and patients is not quite what it use to be at almost 55 now, but I'll leave work at times with smoke coming out of my ears because I'm so mad.  Who else deals with this type of stuff daily?
This is when I can't wait to get home and jump my 750 KO or K6 and haul A$$ down the road and cool off ;)

I work for a very large brokerage firm.  I do tech support.  I have to deal with so many rude people.  I always want to ask "would you speak to me this way if we were face to face?"  The answer is hell no, I would knock somebody out!

They always say "Your guys need to fix your website, you guys need to fix this and that"  Clearing cookies on THEIR computer fixes it most of the time.

Well I guess I don't exactly deal with the general public, but I do some stints on a tech support line for industrial equipment now & then, so yea, I get some strange & frustrating customers on occasion.  Best advice I can offer is enjoy the nice ones & laugh off the a**holes, they're not worth the rise in blood pressure & will never get it anyways.  I'm starting to learn to enjoy the "know it alls" in some way & like to play around with them on occasion.  Use your knowledge, bulls**t with a touch of credibility, baffles their brains, Ha!  Probably very different if you have to deal with them in person, tho, but leave the crap at work & enjoy the bike when you get home.  My 2 cents.

I work at the paint counter in Home Depot.  I've had people threaten me numerous times,  one instance this old guy said all the Depot employees should be taken out and shot.  When I told him he shouldn't threaten people like that even if he didn't mean it he really went ballistic, calling me a f..king liar and threatening to come across the counter and kick my ass-all over a can of paint.

Don't get me started......oh, you just did ;D >:(
My mrs has a female boutique accessories and clothing shop. You wouldn't believe the number of mothers who storm out of the shop all in a huff because the mrs has asked a kid to not wipe his snotty nose, sticky fingers, lollipop, icecream etc on the white clothing hanging up on display or to not play with the jewellry which the fkn little brat has just dropped on the floor.
Then you get the ones who say "I saw this same pair of shoes in another shop and they were $20 cheaper"........my response would be "well go to the other fkn shop and buy them then"....but my mrs has to hold her tongue, don't know how she does it.
And the number of people who spend $200 on a pair of shoes or something, walk around the shop saying "oh I looove them", then 2 days later bring them back to the shop expecting a refund cos "I got them home and decided I didn't like them as much as I thought".....ffs.

There, that feels better. ;D

property management sucks! I've been spit on, dogs sicked on me, cigarettes flicked in my face, threatend to find out where i live and be taken care of. been accused of stealing form their businesses in the middle of the night been accused of cashing their rent checks and keeping the money.the worst was being set up on rent due day to rob me.they failed on that one due to a dirty harry inspiration.this is all for just commercial buildings unfortunately it's in the bad part of town.just yesterday i was being threatend from a rent a center type business because they got broke into and cleaned out so it was automatically our fault and they wanted compensated for the loss.I've been a rent collector for 15 yrs now and i can honestly say I've seen and heard it all.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

I work for a world wide security system installation and monitoring company. my territory is Western WA.   My desk job entails passing along fines to you from the city you live in.  Fines ($500,000+/year) from unnecessary dispatch of Police, to your home, because an alarm is going off.   9 out of 10 of these alarms, you caused, and i can see this on my computer screen.  This is why you are getting the bill.  :P  I can also hear all calls you made to my company, so, i know what you said when you tripped your alarm.  Please don't lie to me and say no one was home, when in the call recording you clearly stated little Johnny was playing with your keys and chewing on the key fob, sending a duress signal and wasting the time of 3 law enforcement agents.  I've heard it all.  If you continue to lie and yell about the $230 fine, that you caused and think i should cover, well, i'll quote some legal stuff from the contract you signed and explain there is nothing i can really do.  Your auto manufacturer isn't liable for your speeding tickets, are they? ::)
But if you call me and basically say you effed up, are ever so slightly apologetic, and state it wont happen again, i'll work with you and probably remove your fine all together.

Play nice. :)

Always reminds me of this:
El Guapo - Three Amigos

There's always going to be that 10% or whatever that you simply cannot please, no matter how hard you try. I guess just kill them with kindness. You can get mad, but it really doesn't do any good. They're still going to be stupid afterwards anyway.

When I first got married (many years ago), I got a seasonal job with the city.  I got assigned to a rubbish route.  We had very few things that we would not pick up.  Concrete was one as it would jam the packer.  One guy thought he would be cute and put broken concrete in the bottom of the can and place papers on the top.  He became irate when told we told him we could not take it.  He came rushing at me with fistback by hiss ready and I smacked him in the chest with one of his metal cans.  He staggered back, went in the house and called the police.  They came out and told him he could be charged with attempted assault.  At the other end of the spectrum was a older gent who would leave cold pop out for us.  We had alley pickups at the time and we would put his cans back in the yard for him.  Sometimes he would forget to put the cans out and we would go get them to empty.

My wife has worked for a large insurance company for over 40 years.  The amount of abuse she puts up with is unending.  People #$%*ing about the cost, like she has any control.  Lewd comments, insults and the like.

Like other posters have said, no manners, no respect for anything including themselves.
