Facinating Pictures and the art of nature
« on: February 26, 2012, 04:52:09 PM »
Sometimes natural phenomena mixed with technology can produce interesting results.  I found this picture accidentally.  But, it is so stunning to me that I had to share it.

The attached picture was taken of one of Vattenfall's  at-sea wind farms.
The wind turbines are huge and the wake turbulence is usually invisible...unless a vapor cloud forms, as has here.

NOAA has a higher resolution picture here if you want to see more detail:
http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2011/20110426_windwakes.html

On a technical note, those of you who doubt turbulence can be an issue, this is quite a good visual demonstration.  It happens with any obstruction placed in an air stream...such as filter membranes or jagged steps in an engine intake tract.

Still, I just like the picture for aesthetic reasons.   I'd like a poster for my wall...

Hope you enjoy it!

I wonder did they learn anything from that.  Maybe change the arrangement in future projects as the turbulence of the front mills interferes with the ones behind. Nice pic tho.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

They must have pods mounted.  You wouldn't see that with the stock wind turbine airbox. ;)

Found this on Neatorama.
Wish I had a picture of my dads old car in the east Texas piney woods. Looked very similar to these.
Thought ya'll might appreciate these vintage cars.

Fields of windmills are amazing to see.  On a ride around Wilkes Barre Pa in 2009 provided a view of the windmills on Bald Mt.  Fantastic.

How about this?  Today's satelite image you can find by googling ot using your favorite weather site.

You can see a faint white streak across the Texas panhandle down towards White Sands , NM which appears as a small white dot in  far south central newmexico.  That faint white streak is white sand, and they say we're going to have a dust storm come through soon with a dry line.

Another roll cloud.

Never seen one in person.

Must be related to a warm air mass colliding with a cold air mass but the linearity is amazing!

I do think the tornado/lighting pic above is photoshop, but is still fascinating.

I took this one of Glacier Peak a couple of years ago. I thought it looked cool. Contrary to popluar belief. lenticular clouds don't always lead to stormy weather. The next two days in the backcountry were awesome and sunny.

My only windmill shot.  Taken December 2010 in a heavy fog.
