MOT today, fingers crossed
« on: May 30, 2006, 11:24:43 PM »
The F goes in for it's MOT today 13:30 GMT,

I'm as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs (Carpy quote I think).

Anywho, I'll let you know, if it passes, or what it fails on.

I've always taken my 500 to the same guy in Reading who runs a very small pedal-bike and motorbike shop.  He sells 50cc and 125cc machines but MOTs anything.

He'd spend 15 minutes chatting about how great these old bikes are and then run a few perfunctory checks.  Brake test by sitting on the machine, applying brakes and rocking back and forth. Lights (work/don't work) - none of this height checking.  Horn.  Indicators ("of course these old bikes need to have the engine running don't they" - "Yes")

Unfortunately, the new computerised MOT means he won't be able to do them any more - too much investment.  This means we will be forced to use "MOT Supermarkets" with the inevitable loss of small independants and I'll bet the price goes up as these guys discover that they can't make any money after investing in all the kit...

Rant over.
