CB400F charging system
« on: March 15, 2012, 11:39:14 PM »
Just wondering does the CB550 Charging system put out more power than the CB400F system.

The reason I ask is would the 550 stator be an upgrade over the 400F system.

Thanks Kevin

Thanks Dave.  I must have missed that thread.
But yes also discovered that the 550 stator fits into the 400/350F cover.

Just wondering if it puts out more power..

The published specs for the two systems (400 and 550) are the same. 150W @ 5000RPM

Some published specs for the CB500 have it making 200 Watts.  I rather think that is a misprint.  But, I haven't tested that one for output.

I've not personally tested for maximum alternator output.  I'm just pleased when they recharge the battery and run the lights.   ;D

Here are the specs, I'm able to glean from my many manuals:
Honda CB500/550 Shop manual, Chapter 6, A.C. Generator Specification.
Type and Manufacturer - LD110-01, Hitachi
Output  - 150W
Battery voltage - 12V
Polarity - Neg Ground
Charging speed - 1000 to 9000 RPM
Weight - 3kg - (6.6 lbs)

Later on:
In Chapter 13 - Technical Data of the CB500
Alternator - Three Phase A.C. 12V - 0.2 KW/5000 RPM
In Chapter 13 - Technical Data of the CB550
Alternator - Three Phase A.C. 12V - 0.11 KW/2000 RPM
