At long last - CB750 Clutch hub mod.
« on: June 04, 2006, 08:55:57 PM »
Here's a shot of my modified clutch hub, with the extra oil holes.

What you cannot see, because I could not shoot it effectively, is that the inside of these holes are chamfered - in fact, all of them are now. This really helps smooth out the clutch on CB750.

Does this help with the occasional "grabiness" I've noticed, particularly in hot weather??

I switched to a 78F set up with the wave washer steel plate. Much better.

While this mod is probably more for the earlier 750s, it sounds kinda cool. I probably dont need it though. The only time I have shift problems is getting into neutral while at a stop and even that is not too hard. The only other time I have issues is from user error! My bike shifts better than many new bikes I have ridden.

Probably a dumb question (who better to ask ;D) The holes alternate around and front to back to not compromise strenght?? And are between plate locations?? OK, that was two dumb questions.  :D

This mod reduces the suddenness of the clutch engagement, particularly in hot weather and with lower viscosity oils.

Yes, try to make the holes between the steel plates. This is easy, given that the plates have marked the hub for you already.  ;)
Also, add holes only down in the "valleys", not on the splines. This ensures that you don't damage the hub's strength.

Besides, the hub in the picture was raced 4 years, then driven to 112,000 miles before I took this picture. It's a tough piece!

Yipes, mine's not even broken in yet! Says a great deal about the durability of these machines.
