PD Carbs leaking, but only after sitting

I put new carb kits in my PD 46a carbs. Bowls fill up fine, no leaks. Worked on bike for a while, no leaks. Come back in an hour and carbs 2 and 3 are leaking? What gives?

needle and seat not mating well. Seeping even when 'closed'.. eventually spilling over. If you ride it, i bet it doesn't happen.
. clean it up with some valve lapping compound. OR shut the gas off when you're not riding.. problem solved.

Is there a FAQ to fix this? I am not familiar with this seating problem. I don't even know what valve lapping compound is :)

So if I turn off my gas and run the engine dry I should be fine?

or you could open the drain screws ( one at a time) and let a gallon of fuel 'flush' each carb. Catch the gas in a clean container and put it back in the tank filtered thru' a coffee filter  ;)
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

I have also cleaned the needle seats with a q-tip and any sort of rubbing compound. But usually draining the bowl and then turning on the gas fixes the problem on my current bike. I also found that the petcock filter in side the tank was missing letting lots of extra junk float through.

Its leaking because the float needle is not seating all the way. There are a few reasons why its just figuring out which one does the trick for your set.

Correct. I usually drain the bowl and then open the petcock.
