Remove Fenders? Hmm...
« on: June 05, 2006, 09:04:48 PM »
I like the look of removed rear (and maybe front) fenders... Any real concern with not having them... mud, stones, police, etc?

filthy front undercarriage - not to mention that the spray of dirt and whatever (road kill) coming off the front tire will be flung up and then straight back into your face

rear fender - "the skunk" look - does it suit you?   ;D

Unless you're a racer, forget it. Besides all the dirt and mud you'll be cleaning off the motor and yourself, the front end will be really unstable without the fork brace effect of the front fender.

If you do a search you'll see alot of talk about how it acts as a fork brace.  Some have showed pics of the center mount (between the forks) removed and used as a brace without the fender, but from looking at it, it seems that the fender mounted as it is acts as a stabilizer because as the forks move out of line, the entire fender would have to shear in line with the bike which is pretty touch for me to do by hand holding the fender.  I'm trying to come up with an alternative myself as I like the fenderless look too.  Maybe just a smaller more modern sport bike fender would protect from too much crud and be just enough of a brace.

I would check your state laws, In Ct. if it's not a
show bike , you may have to have fenders........
          or get cited.......
           hope it helps

Check out my scoot.
I have both the fenders removed, and love the look.
As far as mud/water/road junk goes, I have been pretty lucky to not get too much
thrown back in my face. Get the random puddle once in a while (kind of refreshing ;D)

For the fork brace I just removed the stock brace outta the front fender.
Worked like a champ...

I need to post some new pis, but I recently stripped my fenders and the bike looks bad ass.  I also made it easy to replace the fenders for a poor weather tour or if I just want a change in looks.

i did what proteal did also - and was pleased with the look - but as i'm planning a long run up to chicago soon felt unsure about travelling the distance with no protection in the front - what conditions i will meet - unknown, etc...

my buddy had a stack of very narrow, thin plastic fenders so i grabbed on of those, painted it to match the bike (satin black) and installed it in place of the chrome fender.

the width is the same as the tire, and mounted using the stock brackets it is only 5/8" away from the tire - almost invisible.

i'll post pics soon here...

junkie out...

Check out the front fenders on slightly newer CBs- much more form fitting and closer to the tire..  Plastic, body match color, not chrome..  I think I might go that route instead of removing my fender- I don't like to be covered in mud, and the newer fenders look much closer to the fenderless, clean look than the stock chrome ones..

That is a good looking motorscooter, P r o T e a L 5 5.  I went with the aftermarket "blade" front fender on my CB550.
I'd rather ride a Yamaha than eat worms.

Very nice... That is pretty much what I thought would happen, but it may be the SINGLE most INEXPENSIVE mod that changes the look of your bike... ANYONE?  8) Sorry, I love to spark this stuff, and I know I should have made a new topic, but moderators, feel free to moderate here.

You are right (atleast I think so).  ;DI pulled my rear fender one day to clean the underside (front was allready off) , and liked the look so much I kept it off and sold it on Ebay. I think it gives the bike a much "tighter" feel so to speak. Never had the skunk stripe up my back, as the stock seat catches allot of the crap from the road..

I ran my 750 without fenders. Never a problem. Don't recall if I removed the front bracket or just the fender.

Of course, I live in SoCal, so wet weather isn't really a concern. Riding in the wet without a front fender is probably kind of miserable. As for the back, well, take a look at pretty much any modern sportbike that's been on the road for more than 48 hours, and you'll notice there is no more rear fender. That I'm aware of, no one has yet been killed by this practice, so I think you're probably safe.

fenders are for sissies ;D . you just gotta learn to cock your head to the side when running through some water. nah, really i like the look too much to put fenders back on my bikes.

i'm taking that trip to chicago with cbjunkie, so if we hit some rain, we'll see if i'm singing the same song. riding the chop, so it may be brutal.

vitamincb650, look at this pic. you know you wanna do it.
