1978 CB750F - First Build
« on: April 11, 2012, 11:39:38 PM »
Alright Gents and Ladies,

I have been wanting to build a cafe/brat for a good couple of years and have finally embarked on this wild ride. This is my first build, I won't take offense if you yell and shout about something dumb I'm doing (as long as you help me learn the right way)! I've lurked on the sohc4 forums for awhile and figured I better start sharing.

I obtained a 1978 CB750F in September of last year. 2 PO's, the original had it for 90% of its life. PO was using it as a weekend rider, bought a Vstar and didn't want this beauty anymore. The PO was a really nice guy and was super concerned about the wind jammer and sissy bar not being properly anchored, but I quickly assured him those parts were soon to be off the bike.

The bike was in good condition, 15,000 miles, no signs of sitting outside, I even rode it home. The following weekend I put about 80 miles on it and then snapped a throttle cable. I had to ride home pulling on the cable with a pair of vise grips. Even with that setback, I was over the moon.

Into the garage she went,
stay tuned for disassembly...

The bike looks well cared for.
What is going on with it now?

Why would you want to destroy one as nice as that, there are plenty of neglected cheap examples around that would be better for cutting up.... That is a very good example of one of the best 750's, apart from the valve guide problems....

Fair enough Retro Rocket & wedoo2, but a restore is not what I bought this bike for. I won't spend time debating, this forums certainly has seen its fair share of flame wars over this.

Although I must admit, I must be blind to all the "neglected cheap examples" because all I find is custom shops buying up all the CB's they can lay hands on or idiots trying to sell CB's on craigslist for ridiculous amounts.

I would have been content with any sohc CB750, but fate landed this one in my garage for the right price/right time.

lucky, I'm going to continue uploading pics when I get home tonight...

You could probably get a cheap example on this forum, it is the biggest resource for these bikes....
