Hey Tony, That's NO boat anchor ! it looks like the bikes been stored inside most of it's life. You'll have a lot less cosmetic work to do. A Nice project which shouldn't take too long...

Looks like a great starting point.  Is that a late year production '75?  It has the larger turn signals like the K6's.

Very nice!   A few observations:  the mufflers are aftermarket, very common as the originals were prone to rust.
The "gators" are missing off your front forks. And the chainguard does not appear to be stock. Frankenstuff sells the sidecovers if you do not have the one.
Overall very nice!

Steve-o great observation, The gators were brittle and broke off when the PO was working on the forks. The side cover on the one side my pops said it was a little busted up so he took it off so it wouldn't fly off on the ride back. As far as the after market parts it sounds like you have a better grasp on it then I do.

Tews- I'm slowly starting to notice that all my dad's advice he ever gave me was right, and I'm just now admitting it to him  ::)

The late or early production yr I have no idea yet. When I find out I'll be sure to let you know.

How long has it been sitting ? might be good to do a top end lube before you fire her up for the first time after sitting for a while..and do an oil change before then also...I want to see it up close.

Check out the label on the frame by the steering.  It should give you month and year. Also VIN # can be matched against existing tables.

I saw that bike on CL! I think. It was a steal from the ad in that area! It was outside of Atlanta right?

Bill the last time the bike was running was about 2 weeks ago, the last time it was ridin was about 6yrs ago, and was taken off the road 10 yrs prior to that.

Bender it was on CL outside of Atl, it only had one picture up, and I called him when I first saw it but he decided to take it off and not sell it, then two weeks later by luck of the draw it was the first bike I saw and Immediately called him telling him I wanted it.

This is how I am going to clean the tank, I've seen it done a few times on here and also heard of guys cleaning out their old Mosin Nagant rifle bbl's using this method or a similar one.

as far as tires go any good recommendations? I've been looking for the Firestone vintage deluxe champions, but I also really like the spitfires I got on my cl350

If you want vintage looking tires, check out Dunlop K70 / TT100 (front / rear).
If you want great tires for the road, consider Bridgestone BT 45's, recently bought them for my K4 and an very pleased.

In regard to the tank, I used evaporust. Works great, 20 bucks a gallons and you dont need to treat the tank after.

Be careful with whatever you do to the tank. That paint still looks good. I used a combination of "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner and it got rid of everything in the tank and then flash rusted, then poured in OSPHO (phosphoric acid) and it formed a phospate lining on the inside of the tank. I do not yet know how well it worked but looks good inside for now. The Works hurt the paint pretty good but I was going to repaint. Evapo rust shouldn't be as harsh but still would wipe it up immediately.

Pete,
Do you have to fill the entire tank up w/ Evaporust to get the rust off  the roof of the tank ? and can you do it with less than 3-4 gals to get all the rust out..top to bottom ?

Tony, First thanks for your service.  And welcome to the forum.

My only advice I can offer that has not already been stated is to consider mods that can easily be reversed and keep the parts you take off.

Because of your youth, you may not have a full appreciation for your sohc 750 Honda and you do have a very nice one that has been cared for and not molested over the years.  My point is, you or a future owner may want to restore it back to original.  Cafes are nice, but a classic 750 Honda is something different entirely.

Enjoy your K5 and thanks for the pics.    Stickman

Good morning everyone,
Stickman I am going to take your advice to heart b/c I know that it is correct. Yesterday I ordered a set of Bridgestone Battleax BT45 tires, 100/90-19H for the front and 110/90-18H for the rear. I also ordered one of Hondaman's books knowing that it will come in handy.

I do have questions reguarding my #'s and if anyone can help me identify what I have-
Frame #- cb750-2524185
Engine #- cb750F2405751
Carb #- cb750b(looks like)ami
The "f" in the engine number is throwing me off, is it a super sport engine in a k frame? If anyone can help me identify these it would be awesome. Thank you all and have a good day.

Tony

Usually engines vin start off like 750e. For an engine. But it could be an f. If an f then go wild with mods but keep all other original parts
