Carb rebuild question - CB750K4
« on: April 18, 2012, 08:11:48 AM »
I am rebuilding a spare set of carbs for practice and am now in reassembly phase (one I get the needle jets out!). Question is - when putting the linkages back togther and opening the choke I am guessing all the sliders should go down to the same level. They dont and not sure what to change/adjust?

I think I have the linkages in the correct orientation (using my running bikes for reference). What else can I check?

Also the needle jets are not coming out smoothly -a little stuck - anyone with experience with getting these out?

thanks
Andy

Maybe one of the "arms" that connect the linkage to the actual choke plate has gotten out of its groove? As long as all of the linkages are lined up correctly there's not much else it could be.

As to the needle jets, I've used chopsticks with good results. Strong enough to push them out with a tap from a hammer, but soft enough not to damage the brass.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

That is what I use as well.

Great idea on the chopsticks never thought of that. Not too worried about damaging them as I have new replacements but didnt want to damage the carb body.

Ill need to check the linkage arms as I dont recall touching them. I was thinking more about the length of the linkages as they can be made shorter or longer.

Thanks for the reply
Andy

Oh yeah!! Forgot about the length adjustment. That's totally it. :)

Update - used a wooden pencil to get the needle jets out and that made it quite easy. They are now out and will be replaced with new ones. Thanks for the suggestions.

Now to figure out the linkages...

Andy...to get all the choke flaps the same you have to first put the carbs back on the rack. Then you pull the cotter pin out from the arm and rotate the choke arm to where you want it. Sort of a pain, but I had to do that on my K4 too.

I just had the same issue. I believe i put them (carbs) together and tightened them to the rack/spring assy, then adjust the outer turnbuckles on both carbs so they allow the choke slides to fully seat and slide, then adjust the center turnbuckle. FYI the outers go in first then the center turnbuckle goes on last. It is a pain.
