well tomorrow ill be calling around trying to find a good machine shop or motorcycle shop to recut my seats and check out my valves lets hope it wont cost me an arm and a leg, and i really hope i dont need to buy new valves. but well see what comes up tomorrow. if any one knows a good shop around my neck of the woods, that would be great!
I know that a great Japanese motorcycle shop will either be able to do them..or will be able to steer you in the direction of a Shop that has done some quality work for them..from their own experience.I would personally want to have a trained eye give me a "heads up" on the condition of the valve guides and seats.I think you'll be glad when you take you're bike for a ride knowing that all the power that is being produced in the firing zones of your engine will be efficiently applied to the pistons downward thrust, rather than possibly leaking past your valve seats.
I like balanced compression numbers for a smooth running engine..and it'll last for a while w/o having to "rebuild it again next year", as some V twin guys love to do.
USCG_C130,
You may have to do lot's of research to find the one your comfortable with before you hand it over to them...,I think you'll know it when you find it.  ;)
I sent mine out to a place in CO. this past Winter recommended from the sohc4 Guru that we all love so much here & I'm very pleased.  :)

I am going to point out, the manufacturers are assembling brand new stuff, in a high volume production setting, we are usually not..

The factories use 'interference angles when new, 45 on valve, 46 on seat.
sharp edge makes good seal and it 'hammers down' to match valve in a couple of hundred miles.
If you ever check valve clearance on a brand new bike, you'll find it's generally 0.002"~0.004" larger than recommended but quiets down within about 50 miles

The fasctory is banging them out quickly
We are sometimes "touching them up"

If the factory left no room for improvement.we would all be riding stocker...( only partly true, manufactures have to abide by ewmission requiements and please the mASSes)

Yep, Honda were making a complete motorcycle in around 7 seconds back in the late 70's
It's pretty difficult to improve a new 1000cc 150+ bhp sport bike, without spending a LOT of money  ;)

I would go with the serdi if possible.  I have a guy where I leave who is reasonable and does a good job.  If you hunt around and try speed shops bet you could find a better deal.
