Shinko 705 on a K7?
« on: September 05, 2011, 07:21:43 PM »
I was wondering, is anyone running a 140 rear tire on a K7? Right now, I have a Bridgestone 130 and I was wondering whether I could go a little bit bigger and install a 140. It looks like there is enough clearence. If so, would I need a wider rim? Mine is a 2.5 inch.

I am thinking about a dual sport tire, e.g. the Shinko 705:

Any opinions on that? I know it's not the best for cornering  ;) but would look great with the style of my bike.

If anyone has any photos of a 140 installed, that would be great! Thanks.

I have the Kenda K761 (120) on my K4 and its ok but 3 things are not good:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/2/29/393/15130/ITEM/Kenda-K761-Dual-Sport-Rear-Tire.aspx

1. Crap in the rain
2. Crap in the corners
3. Noisy

I got it for doing more gravel/dirt roads as I was doing this last year but this year havent done any! Will change back to a BT-45 soon!

I think a 140 will not fit with the rear brake arm.

good luck
Andy

I think the K7/K8 has more clearence than the earlier models, if I am not mistaken. Right now with my 130 tire there is more than 1/2 inch of room on each side. I am tempted to give it a try since the tires are so cheap and I never ride in the rain :-). Although cornering is another big negative obviously....

Would a 2.5 inch rim be enough for a 140 tire, do you know?

Thanks for your feedback!

I ran a 150 on an earlier K so K7 or 8 is an easy fit..

I have a 705 (130) rear on my bike now and I'm very satisfied with it.  I only bought it to finish up the season (becuase it's cheap and aggressive looking) but It feels stable to me.  Good in the rain - especially braking (10x better than my old one), pretty decent in the corners but I also don't like to push my limits much... I've put some good leans on it and it feels good.  Also lets you know when it's close to it's limit because you'll feel the corner lugs.  Otherwise no vibration or noise (suprisingly).
I've put a little over 1,000 miles on it in the last month and no complaints.  I can check what I have for room when I go get it tomorrow. Maybe snap a pic.

Like Andy said - I think the brake stay arm might be close, not sure.

Otherwise - its like $50 right? Why the heck not haha

Yeah, you can't do much wrong for $50 :-) I think I will give it a try, the looks is really what I like and even if it was bad in the rain that wouldn't affect me, haven't seen rain in a year now...

754, did you run the 150 on the original 2.5 inch rim?

Thanks again guys.

I was looking at a Shinko 705 for my bobber, which tire did you pick for the front? Did you use the tubeless tire 110/80 19 with a tube?

Haven't changed tires yet, still have some life left in my current ones (BattleAx) front and rear.
