Anyone have a picture of a 750k4 spark advancer?
« on: June 09, 2012, 02:56:25 PM »
My spark advancer is barely readable. It seems like it's in ok working condition but having hard time setting my timing chain. If someone can post a picture of another k4 spark advancer to help me see what I'm looking at I would appreciate it.

Found one. Good I was looking at the right marks (faintly). These are different than the ones pictured in the honda shop manual. The index marks are to the right of the letters in that one...

Am I going to be able to set my timing with a timing light since the letters on my spark advancer are so hard to read? I tried cleaning it off but whatever the white stuff is isn't coming off

If you can still make out the marks try putting a mark there with a fine tip red permanent marker . Does that advancer work smoothly ?
If the springs have been corroded they will be weak . This will cause advance to come in early . When you get it running observe the advancer with a timing light and keep track of when it reaches full advance . Check this against factory specs . A k0 would begin to advance just off idle and be all in by 2300-2500 Rpm .

Ok thanks for the tips. Yeah the springs are likely weak. How bad is it if it starts advancing too early? I'll see if I can nab up a replacement. In the mean time I did manage to get the timing chain set correctly (I believe).
