Don't think I can make it to step 1 Admiring you have a problem.  By the way let me know when your stock runs low I should have a shipment ready to go six weeks from now.

Maybe when I get some spare time I will take a few pics of the herd.

Tews, just looking out for ya.  Don't want you to end up in the poor house once you see my stash.  Give me a week and I'll get some pics up.  Work is very busy for the next day.  After that 6 weeks off with nothing to do but ride and wrench things are looking good.

Well . . .
You can hear the fluid in the tank slosh back and forth. It isn't clay, but . . .
Tell me how i can attack this tank. Any info will help.

Other then that there is light surface rust under the rear fender and little spots here and there. The frame didn't seem to have any rust on it. odometer says "06000" miles. HAHAHAH!!!!! :)

We looked under the seat and bam!! Original took kit, probably never even opened. He has the ORIGINAL title, and the book. . . .
Look at these photos and tell me what you think!
Over all originality is best!!
I have come across a completely disassembled 1967 harley 250 sprint . . . All parts there but taken apart. Owner has title and has had it for like 40 years.  BUT, he also has a worn out Honda!! i looked at it, plants are growing over it. No tank, no carbs, no seat, no battery. I will get picks of that in a few weeks and turn that into a cafe style bike. All i know is the engine is a 4 cylinder . . . i assume from the 70's.

TANK!!

Exhaust, left and right side

Exhaust manifold / header

Under rear fender

Random but good

Wow! You better title that in your name before you break up with the girl! That bike looks great!  Take the tank off remove the petcock. Drain all fluid and as much gunk as you  can. Plug the petcock holes up with rubber plugs from your local hardware store. Pick up several gallons of evaporust. Expensive at 20 bucks a gallon but you just stole a damn near mint 750 for pennies.  You can buy it at any auto store. Let sit for a few hours and you should see a huge difference.

Very nice!  The gas sitting in the tank may have turned to varnish. You need to clean that out and the petcock, possibly the fuel lines and carbs too.

Trevdawg,

That is one sweet bike!  Nice find your making poor Tews mouth water with this post.  Love the color and that sweet old license plate.  As for the tank it does not look that bad at all probably mostly varnish as Steve says.

Also get steel wool 000 when you are out. Use on the rims and any other parts to attack the rust. Should clean like new. Apply nvr dull too to the chrome

Thanks for all the advice.

So if that is varnish in the tank and i change the lines, etc.  Will those brown spots go away or is it rust??

I will officially pick it up on saturday and start working on it and let you know what my friend and i have done to it.

If the brown spots are rust, they most likely will not go away. The tank may need to be serviced.
Post some pics when you get it and we can see how bad it is.

There are different methods depending on the severity of the rust. Don't freak out, it may be fine. My 550 tank has minor rust inside, but no issue.  I keep it full of fuel so rust is not exposed to air.

Yes it seems early stages. I can keep the tank full to make sure it doesn't get worse.

Hahahaha, you just made out like a bandit! $1000 is a steal in my book, enjoy that one man and forget baout turning it into a cafe. It's perfect the way it is and worth way more in stock condition.

Considering the tarded prices people ask for (and get) on old CB's in Chicago, nice find.  Whatever you do with it, enjoy and keep the stock parts it came with.  Good on ya!

Don't kill yourself over a little rust in the tank.  That's why fuel filters and regular maintenance exists.

just use some toilet bowl cleaner overnight. that surface rust will vanish. Lowes sells a gallon  of this stuff that works wonders.

You should go buy a lottery ticket today!  That bike is a JEM from where I'm sitting and a fantastic deal.  Good Luck and keep us posted.

Yah, I have seen tanks a lot worse than that. I would try the Evaoprust. You really need to be careful if you try the toilet bowl cleaners as they are real caustic and could damage that nice OEM paint. I agree, you have a nice original there and those are just not around anymore. Do the basics and it will fire right up. Did you pull a float bowl off to see if the carbs were drained before it was set up for a while. That would be cool if they are dry and clean.

No I did not look in that area.  My friend and I will do that tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the advice. I will keep you guys posted and hopefully have that chrome to bright to look at.
