Road trip milage
« on: June 19, 2006, 08:49:30 AM »
Just did 400 miles to the beach and back this weekend.  With my 76 550K loaded - two of us, packed side bags, and a huge tank bag.  All told, we must have been pushing the max weight limit.  Even so, we averaged 48 mi/gal for the trip!  Outstanding.  I'm loving my bikes more and more as time passes.

That's great!  I'm looking for some saddle/side bags and wondered what bags you are using. For the sides and your tank bag.

I'm looking to get out of town and don't want to carry stuff on my back. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

thanks,

jason

Jason,

The side bags I found are old shoei hard case bags - don't know the specific name or model - I got them off ebay from someone who was using them on a CB900.  From the ebay photos, I could tell they were very adjustable - and they went on with no problems.  They secure at three places - and are very solid.  Just need to get the locks re-keyed.

I use an old backpack for a tank bag - put a small piece of non-slip rug pad between the tank and the bag and then secure with a bungee cargo net.  Works great.

good luck,
Paul.
