Comstar dual disc conversion-info please
« on: May 10, 2012, 10:54:47 PM »
Title is pretty self explanatory. I want to do this, but can't find any info on it.

Who has done this and did the factory ever put dual discs on Comstars? I'm guessing "yes" but just dont know.

Thanks in advance!
The darn fool didn't know it couldn't be done...so he went ahead and did it anyway.

What bike you working on?  All 77-78 CB750 F models came with Comstars with dual disc brakes and a rear disc brake.

I put an entire front end off a 79 dohc cb750f on my 72 cb750. Dual disk comstar and all. Dunno if that helps any. Anways, short answer is yes it can be done very easily. I think most comstars were dual disk aside from cx500's and the cb650's.

Best way to do it, imho, is to use an F2 (77-78) forks, wheels, master cylinders. If you are converting from a rear drum you'd need the swingarm too.
From what I recall, certain GL front ends are compatible with the above parts as well. Don't remember which ones.

Thanks guys. The bike is a 78K but the arm and forks are gonna be something else. Right now the arm is off a 85-87 ZX600A and the front end will most likely be a CBR.

I have the early Comstars. They came off my '76F,but they were not the original wheels.Someone swapped the factory spokes for them. Not the later ones. Since the forks are being changed out ( this just came up today) all I am looking for now is anther rotor.

Horning, everything kinda changed on me.Now I am using a 81C front end and this early comstar. The two rotors that came with the 81C front end were the correct 5 bolt rotors to fit the early comstar. I had to shave a little off the speedo drive to shift the wheel slightly on the axle, and make a spacer on the opposite side.It really wasny very complicated.
