awesome! Im curious to see how you mount the front end. Im about to do the same. Seems the options are either press in the cb stem, use a 48mm upper bearing and a .25mm thick shim, or spin a new stem...

F*ck this is going to be CRAAAZZYYY !  8)

To much to read into at first glance, have to read the first page twice !

Looking really forward to see the progress.

During the frame modification, are you going by "feel" or have you run any calculations ?
Please ! Take a look and give me feedback in my project thread, its much needed :)

Fun Stuff, So I've been working with the baja team more and more so I've been unable to make huge updates to my bike, That should change soon, I'm currently trying to pick up two 1976/77 Celica GT Coupe's from a friend but those will end up in storage till this bike is finished.

So Here's where I am currently.

I'm happy to announce I finally have what I need to mount the swing arm I'll be making a glorious wooden jig soon to help me mount it correctly now that I've gotten all of the bushings and what not sorted for the rear axle.

If you've never seen a late model GSX-R pivot bolt assembly let me enlighten you! the Steel Bushings you see pictured are the parts that will be welded to my frame, I had them made recently by a friend.

This does not include the spacers, bearings, bushings that go with the swingarm that slide onto this... now you get to feel less silly about having a single bolt through your swingarm.

F*ck this is going to be CRAAAZZYYY !  8)

The neck was checked  to be level/plumb to avoid problems, and the jig for the Swingarm will deal with the rear as well. I have no intentions of running this through inventor/solidworks, half of the stuff I measured was off by a bit from the factory so I'm going with the "meh" as long as its with reasonable tolerances.

Been a lurker on here for a little while now.  Just got done building yet another cb750 Dohc.  But the main reason I am following your thread is because I picked up a wrecked 97 CBR600F3 and now looking for a Dohc CB frame to do like your are.  <First BIG conversion for me.   Only thing Im lacking from my wrecked cbr is front suspension....but atleast I can utilize the rest. So to say the least I am following your build very closely.  Im glad you came back with an update!

But unlike you I do not have access to uber cool tube benders here in my area.   So once I get my frame seems I might have to wing it....  Any do or donts that you have for advice?   Ill pm you some other questions so I dont trash your thread sir.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

I'm getting one of these for the house soon (http://www.jd2.com/p-32-model-3-bender.aspx), the Locostusa guys seem to like them its 300 for the machine + 150 for every die you'd need. You have to put some work into it and be smooth with your actions but it does a good job.

The bender I used at the shop is a mittler brothers I dont remember which model. dies for it are about 350 each If you've never bent tube before make sure there's some one there to help you and do technical drawings of how you want the tube bent first so you can correctly set it in the machine. some bends are not possible to do because of conflicting geometry so pay attention to that.

If you cant weld or dont have access to a welder at minimum its not really possible to put the CBR motor in there so I hope you can accomplish that.

There is another method for clearing the exhaust that is easier but I chose not to do it which is to run a centered tube in the front. However I didn't wish to go that way

This has been my "why didn't I pay more attention to that" problem... this tank is coated on the inside and there's a piece the size of a playing card curling up around the petcock and I'm raging because with that and all of the dents/scrapes in it I'm better off just looking for a replacement.

So I've done inventory tonight since work and Baja have been taking up my time. Lucky me I have collected all the remaining parts for the wheel spacers and the 2007 GSX-R 750 Forks have made the 2004 GSX-R 1000 Front wheel at home with no spacing issues. The rear wheel has settled snugly as well.

What remains is getting grease for the taper bearings up top and a new propane torch head to help with seating the All Balls taper bearing races.

So boring pictures for now but a good mile stone marker for the project. once the front end is assembled I can get correct measurements for the rear geometry and start fabbing up the mounts for the arm and the coilover.

Well, I just threw my whole steering assembly at the wall because I just found out the threads were damaged... (I had already pressed the new bearing onto it before realizing this) I've got another assembly but the lower clamp has some damage debating on what to do right now. GnarlyCharlie is sending me a K6 Cb750 tripple assembly to get measurements off of (not to cannibalize) so I can finish my blueprints for GSXR replacement stems to my machinist.

i did get a box today I had ordered to get 3 bolts/nuts in the lower left corner, it came with extras :P

dude catalog all of that ish and keep it.
I bought a "lot" of parts on ebay for just a couple pieces and wound up using the last of the bolts from it the other day. It was about 40 lbs of bolts and whatnot.

The valves and springs are probably going to remain unused. I can't identify most of them and it's not worth it to use the rest.

Thanks for the carb cleaning charlie bud, they look awesome :D

I'm sure some one is wondering how I'm going to solve this little number that just about every one who does this front end swap runs into...

I could always just run a single nut with locktite and call it a day... but that's not how it's going to be.

What in the hell am I doing with all of these clamps/trees? (I gave some away WTH!?)

Yea... Soon man... soon.

have you ever had one of those moments, where you're packing all of your things and you manage to fit 20lbs into a 10lb bag and you're super proud of yourself only to find you still have 10lbs more to shove into that bag?

Short story... I kinda let the radiator issue sit on the back burner, I thought I had enough room until I started measuring and comparing the 3 radiators I have which made me realize, I don't actually have room for this to fit there.

so what made me frantically size things up and start pulling magical ideas of custom radiators out of my ass was a picture of a CX500 and its outstretched neck.

That's a whole hell of alot of reach compared to mine as seen here.

So as I sit here, some of the engineering students have rubbed off on me and I'm using a student edition of SolidWorks to draw the whole bike over again so that I may create something that is consistent and properly accommodates all components before I continue. Because with this realization I started to consider other issues I would run into with my rear suspension and planned air box design.

I'm going to be spending the rest of the week sorting this issue out. hopefully I'll have a useful model come Wednesday.

I know it's unconventional... but why not put the radiator where the headlight should go, and put headlights mounted to the top or bottom of each fork?

I've actually seen a few race bikes with the small radiator mounted on the fork near the top. Some motocross bikes (makes sense...less dirt-more air?)

bought this in November to flip for the spring so I've been in a race to finish it. Just got done with the rear sub frame repairs (had to tig on some new sub frame mounting tabs)

Updates will follow once I have this done which will hopefully be before the first half of this month.

So I thought I'd give you guys an update.

Apparently to the right drunk 1 case of beer = value of a non runner CBR600 F3

I also picked up this awesome little guy :D

So why on earth would I want a CBR600 F3? the motor is useless I've heard about 3 different stories about what's wrong with the motor and none of them make sense and the broken tab on the block makes the engine worthless for anything other than a shifter kart/buggy project assuming it does work. Half of the trumpets for the carbs were missing which arent worth replacing cost wise so to me it's moot.

Good thing is, wheels are in great shape, swing arm looks good too. and it comes with a title, who can beat that!? So I'm having a good ole time in solid works trying to figure out if it's feasible to use actual CBR parts in my project, time will tell not a big update but just something to let you know where my thoughts are wandering too.

So it's been a wile, that's for sure.

the CR60 got in the way a bit so I opted to give it to a friend after I damaged the impossible to replace timing pickup on it riding it like a tard. He's since managed to get it running by swapping electrics in from a later model CR80 which is great.

I picked up an equally old bad idea a 1971 BMW 2002 and took it auto crossing. If it wasn't obvious it's not brilliant at handling.

Good news for the CB750 project is I have resolved some of the engineering issues with the motor transplant and I'll be resuming the build. I also managed to spend some time to do a proper rendering of what I want the bike to turn out. the color is still up in the air but everything else is nailed down quite well.

Caswells claims to take care of failed liners. I am sure that you would have to shake some screws in there with acetone but it might work.

Following now because I was just thinking about this the other day.
