Regarding TwoTired's post.....back in "the good old days", I had a friend who
worked at the Caddy dealership. A lady came in and complained about the terrible
gas mileage she was getting. Upon going for a test ride with her, he found out that
the first thing she did was pull out the choke and hang her purse on it.

The starter on these old cars was a large push button located to the right of the
gas petal. You had to mash the button down to the floor which manually engaged
the starter and the last little bit connected the battery to the starter. All this while
holding the gas petal just right...or pumping it. I learned to drive in a '31 chevrolet
that had this arrangement and my foot is permanently bent to the right.

....ah the good ole days.
