Welding triple clamp??
« on: May 13, 2005, 11:06:24 AM »
I managed to break the top triple clamp on my cb500 yesterday where it clamps around one of the fork tubes.

Is it cool to just get it welded or should I really be looking for a replacement?

Thanks

Replacement is better. There is supposed to be a special washer in the gap to stop you tightening too far but i have seen them break even with that in
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Welded the one on my CB350F. And I ride the piss out of it. Alot depends on the welder and technique.

I took the time to bevel the broken peices to get a really good weld bite.

That said, a used unbroken one if you can find it is better and quicker.

Yep, had it done on a couple of bikes over the years. Remember, dont let the welder guy try and true it up by eye, make sure the pinchbolts are in, and holding everything right.
