A couple of questions re: long forks.
« on: June 24, 2006, 06:27:55 PM »
So... I've discovered that the PO put some longer forks on MY '75 750.

Questions:
1. Any idea how much fluid I should put in 'em? (Surely it's a little more than Clymer recommends for the stock forks)

2. Obviously the accordian style boots won't fit. There is one small rubber boot on one side and it's a sloppy fit (bout a quarter inch too big) Any ideas on a new pair of boots that might fit?

I'm sure I can come up with something with a little research but if someone here is already familiar with this kind of mod... please... let me know!

Thanks

Vince

everything in the bottom half of the forks are still stock and that is where all the fluid is and stay's. You will never get the spring like a stocker. I would just use the recomended amount. the little dust seal sit over the forks on the lip on the bottom section of the fork. You can get them at honda or call around and see you carries them. Or try David Silve Spares.

yes, use the same amount of fork oil no matter how long your tubes are.

the rubber boots you need came on the later 750's without the accordian boots. there are a number of reproductions as well as other bikes that you can salvage similar ones from that will work just fine. if there is a bike salvage yard near you, you should be able to find something that will fit.

Are you planning on swapping these out for shorter tubes?
Do you know the overall length?
I myself am looking for longer tubes for my 76 500 chopper project.
I have a two sets of stock 550 tubes and 1 set of 750 tubes(only slightly longer than 550's)
Let me know if we might be able to work something out,
Thanks
