Part number cross reference?
« on: June 25, 2006, 08:04:02 AM »
I know I have seen it talked about before but I can't remember what web site provides this service.  I would like to cross reference the part numbers for my 750k5 with other models to look for common parts.

Thanks for any replies

I keep this bookmark --> http://www.crotchrocket.com/fiche_select.asp

When I find something that I think may cross-reference, I open up two windows side-by-side and comapare the parts in question: numbers, look, description, surrounding/adjoining stuff, etc.

What I would like to see is a parts number library with matching year/model references...

There is a guy in Singapore selling an OEM NOS set of handlebars [set? it's just one handlebar...] that have only a Honda part number...he has no idea what it fits...it looks right, and may be the original part # for my bike, before superseded by later revisions, but who would know???

A real cross-reference list would be nice, but I don't have any.  If you look closely, there's a place where you can enter the part number on their page.  Kind of the bull-in-a-china-shop approach, but better than nothing.

If you look closely, there's a place where you can enter the part number on their page.

It doesn't result in anything that would identify where the part originated or what it fits. Or even if it is still available; it just gives the suggested price.

Honda dealers have the plastic Fiche too, and a bound price guide. the only way they know if the part is unavailable is if the part number is missing from the price guide. The price guide doesn't list the source of the part number either. Been there already...

This may be talking thru my hat, but one could go thru the fiche drawings on crotchrocket.com, type up all the part numbers in a comma seperated format.  i.e.

1234-56-7890,77,750,F,0987-65-4321  Which would be   Stock #,Yr,Size,Model,Stock # it replaced (if any)

Then we could enter this into a database program such as Micro$oft Access and put together our own Cross reference book.  This would be alot of work, but if multiple people each took a different few pages or a single year and model it wouldn't be a ball breaker and we'd all benefit.  We would all have to agree on the format and who was responsible for what pages up front so there wasn't a duplication of effort nor missed pages.

I think this would be a great project, not for someone to sell on ebay, but as a group benefit of being in SOHC4

Now, with all that said, I'm not necessarily volunteering to ramrod this idea.  While I'd like to participate in a piece of it, I already have too many projects and not enough time.  So, what does everyone think?  Could we do this together?  I assume we should do it for all of the SOHC4's but we could start small with just the 750's.  It seems to be the most commonly owned...

So, we've got one volunteer... Any others?

check ron ayers. the site there has a feature where you can enter a part number and it'll tell you what/where it fits - not sure how well it works or how extensive the list is, but it's an easy thing to have a go at.

it's on the side bar below the regular part number search.

I just tried five different part numbers; several off my latest receipt (the parts are on my bike). There were *no* matches.   :'(

yeah, i was afraid it'd only work for the newer bikes - that site doesn't really supply vintage stuff.

I think you're right - his Fiche doesn't even list the CB500 or CB550...

That number-matcher must only reference *his* Fiche...

Honda have there own basic cross reference in the middle number being the "model" number EG 300, 341, 410 are all models of 750 323 is 500 374 is 550 four and 375 500 twin
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

The part number actually does a little for you.  The center number is the "Product Code", specific to each model.  For instance I have a '75 CB550K1, product code 374.  If I see a part number in my '75CB550K1 part list manual that has a different product code, then I know Honda didnt change the part since whenever it was designed.  For example, there's parts listed with a product code of 300, which is for CB750 K0/K1.  These haven't changed since they were designed and still in use on other models.  Hey wait, does that mean I can rip them off my bike and oficially sell them as 'sandcast'???  I've attached a pdf file that describes all this in greater detail.

Very good; thank you! Not as complete as the one at CMS -

http://www.cmsnl.com/faq.php?s_question=Honda+Partnumbers&id=14&fq_catid=14#14

For instance, this part was on eBay but with no dimensions -

Using the CMS chart, I see that it is for a CD125K3.K4...but the 303 is not listed on that PDF document...

Still doesn't help me; as there are no dimensions given for the CD125...but it's more than I knew before...
