price check in aisle 4
« on: June 28, 2006, 09:37:44 AM »
hey all,

found a fellow within 2hrs of me with a complete & NIB chrome Kerker 4-1 that will fit my '75 CB550F Supersport.
question... what would one of these go for?  I can't find sh*t online about 'em.
he's playing the "make me an offer" game and even tho i have a figure in mind, i'm still reluctant to toss it out to him.  mostly cuz i'm a real cheap bugger and i'll call it much lower than most.

thx much.

Not sure about a 550  but my new Kerker for my 750F cost close to $500. If it is NIB offer him $200 and see if he bites. Tell him you don't have a clue as to what one would go for and you don't have much of a budget to work with. He'll probably want more but you have room to go up and still get a good deal.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

yeah...pretty much along the line i was thinking.
he says he's already got a 4-1 megaphone setup on his 77 cb550f and simply doesn't need or want this one.  and that he has no idea what its worth.
but anyone unloading a NIB exhaust of any type/brand must have some idea of it's worth, be-it imaginary or realistic.
i'll think that i will in fact throw that number at him and see if it sticks or not.
...i can also throw in the argument that i'm going to make a 2+ hr drive (each way) to take it away... it has worked in the past to gain a bit of bargaining leverage.

thx.

Make sure you agree on a set price before you drive the 2+ hours.
I have done deals like this in the past, and when I get their, the seller is like ,
" I know we said $200, but I need $400.." ::)

I'd offer $150 to start, if not closer to $100.  If he'll accept $200, he'll think about $150 and respond.  If he's thinking $300+, then offering $200 isn't going to get you anywhere anyhow, except for $250+.
