San Francisco is the city of bizarre gastronomy. I was there two weeks ago and ate in one day - in no particular order - Chinese sticky buns, avacado loaf, mussels, sourdough, cured Italian deli meats, and a rack of garlicified baby back ribs.
SF is the city of amazing food. I suspect the donut/Chinese food combo comes from a general predilection for deep friers, but who knows?
