Handy Table Lift???
« on: September 06, 2012, 05:50:33 AM »
Looking at a Handy S.A.M 1000 pound air operated table lift with vise. Looks nice in the pics. He is asking $850 and says used little. Is this a good deal or not?

The only thing is neither one of these on eBay are made by Handy Lift which I understand are pretty close to top of the line unless I am mistaken? This particular one is within an hour of my house so shipping is not a concern.

Quality has a price Johnie and that one does look like a good one. Have you by chance compared that price to a new one yet of the same model.? Think your only going to need one, might as well make it a good one, take 5 crisp 100 dollar bills with you to go look at it and see where you and the owner can meet up. Not knocking Harbor Freight and the rest but that one would suite you well and save that Old back a little strain   ;)

+1 - Handy Lift is top of the line, my buddy has one and I was recently admiring it.

Go for it.

BTW, the HF cheapo lift is currently on sale for $299. A couple members here have them and like it.

A repair shop [mowers] uses these Handy lifts all day every day for years and years and never an issue.  If you buy at close to the right price point, your purchase price will be refunded when you sell.

As long as your back and knees stay young, yes.  If you stay in the hobby for very many years you learn what the term "ergonomics" mean to you.  A lift saves your back and your knees, and positions the bike where everything is much more visible.  First time you clean a bike on a lift you will see crap you have been missing for years.  Do a full project build and the ease of working on it in a standup position will make you wonder why you didn't buy one sooner.

give me a break...go out for a 1500 meter run everyday...and do some stretches everyday...drink Vodka and crystal light instead of beer...I'm 59 and still polish parts btween my feet with my foreskin wrapped around whatever part of the part that been or needs polishing...till it's all shiny...if it hurts a bit the next day...just walk it off.

thats why there are center stands.  Bunch of HAZEL's!

buy the handy lift, will last as long as you'll need it. the HF lifts are  cheap alternatives, but thats exactly what they are, you'll find the hydrualics cylinder will start leaking and you'll be replacing o rings or it'll look like you have an old harley parked in your shop.

I have a lift and frame type lift and use it when ever I can.  The Handy type lift is what I should have brought.  The one good thing is if, you have limited space you could park your bike on it.

I have an Eazyrizer, (On-Bike.com) holds onto the side stand and either the frame or under the  wheels. Good for working on suspension with the frame mounts and tune up with the wheel mounts.  Worked great when I had the Ducati.   The Handy type lift should be more useful and easier to use.

Wasn't she that maid on TV?  Don't think she needed a lift, she could lift and polish at the same time!

After you buy a quality tool you rarely think back to what it cost. Sounds like the way to go.

I have a Handy lift, the basic model. I love it, it's very well built and seems like it should last forever. The SAM is the next step up. Think they're about $1400 new. These lifts are commonly found in dealerships & repair shops, they are pretty much top of the line. I paid $600 for mine. $850 seems fair for a SAM in very nice condition. If it's beat up/worn,  I'd offer less.

I have a handy lift i bought used for 650. It does not have the newer style wheel chock like that one and does not have the rear wheel drop away either. So for 850 sounds like a good deal. I love my lift and will never go back. Also if you buy a quality lift like that if you ever want to sell it it will bee easy and you may get all your money out of it.
