« on: September 06, 2012, 04:46:44 PM »
My father in law just got done building his K0.  I dont have any before pics, as he started building it before i ever even started to date his daughter almost 4 years ago.  I do have a pic of it from a month or so when he was getting close:

And here are the finished pics and specs:

1969 K0, non-sandcast.  The bike was taken down to the frame and the frame and some other parts were powdercoated black.  The engine didnt need any major work, it pretty much just got painted black, and some parts polished.  It has the stock wrinkle tank with the filler neck cut off and a lockable flush fitting cap mounted in its place.  It also has the stock K0 side covers painted black and badges.  The seat and tail are from a 1977 F2.  The wheels are lesters, and are powder coated black.  I think the 4-1 header is a MAC.  It has individual air filters and seems to run pretty good with them.  The fender is a custom piece made by his brother who owns a custom bike shop specializing in Harleys.  It also has lowering brackets on the rear shocks (i think the shocks are from the supersport too) that bring the rear down about an inch and a half.  The paint is an old hotrod orange color he had from the 70's with some gold flake in the clear, but you cant really see that from my crappy phone pics.  He pulled the bike out of a barn several years ago and it had been sitting and rotting for over a decade.  After he got it running good he began teardown of the bike.  He bought several other parts bikes to rob pieces from, which is how he acquired the supersport tail that he eventually decided to use instead of the stock seat.  Everything on the bike that is not stock K0 can be taken off and the original parts can be put back on to get back to stock.

on another thread someone had asked me how he mounted the F model seat on the K frame since the hinges are on opposite sides.  He cut the bottom part of the hinge off the F bike and made a bracket that bolts to the frame of the K.  The hinge for the stock seat is still on the other side of the frame.  Here is a pic:

WOW that F seat sets way more forward than it actually would on an F ...... but it still looks cool. One of the things that bugged me about ours is that with the F seat setting in the correct position with the F tank it seemed to overhang the rear a bit, at least a bit more than I thought it should so therefore I thought something was wrong but every pic of a 77/78 F  I looked at seemed the same way as well. It doesn't help that my kid isn't using the plastic rear F fender either but that's how he wanted it.

Thanks for getting the pic and that is a cool looking K0.

I believe the swing arm on an F is a little longer than a K as well, so that is probably part of the reason there seems to be much more space between the back of the wheel and the back of the tail on your K.  There is space on the F's too, but not quite that much, and the fender hides a lot of it.  My F came without the fender and i thought it didnt look right, so i bought one on ebay

I've got the correct F rear fender and yep it would fill in the gap and "look correct" at least from my point of view but for what ever reason my kid didn't like the F fender a chose not to use it.
