Just called up this shop http://www.mywheelrepair.com/?redirect=false and they want $200 per wheel to refinish the surface! I'm a little shocked on the price but is this reasonable or I'm being cheap bastard?

Considering what they are and what you can get for them if refinished/repaired, I'd say it's worth it.  I'd still call around if I were you though.

from phone conversation, not much...well, i didn't think i was asking them to do much - cleaning up oxidization and paint and repaint - basically refurbish?  for them may mean a whole lot and that may be why they charge that much.

anyways, i would rather save that money for your wheels when the time comes  ;)

I'm planning on refinishing my Lesters myself, but will farm out the blasting if necessary.
Brought the bike to my buddies shop and they'll be taken off tomorrow.

I could have them blasted and powdercoated just about any color/texture you want for 75$ a wheel.

That little kid is way cuter than your bike mate, ha ha! The body work looks like Tracy stuff that's been modded in the 1980's to incorporate a DOHC Honda CB750/900 ducktail. Good mod, makes it look much neater than fugly 1970's Tracy bodywork. Get those wheels blasted and powdercoated silver or gold, and they'll pop! Cheers, Terry. ;D

 I would not P coat a mag wheel if it was free.. 400 degrees..prefer not to go there..

I was talking to a custom powder coater last week, he does engine blocks, heads, mag wheels and lots of other Alloy parts, there are temps that should not be used for some alloys but a good coater will already know this, also there are a range of different powders that use different temps as well, powder coating has come a long way in recent years...  Find a reputable powder coater and ask questions....

Exactly. Magnesium wheels are done ALL the time.  I even just had my mag. clutch and stator covers done and my yz.

regarding the body kit, i wasn't quite convince about it being tracy, so some time last week i looked around it for marking or labels, didn't find any label inside or outside the tank.  BUT there is a small area by the right tail blinker that the panel is recessed for Tracy metal emblem.  i'll take pic of that tomorrow.

got a response from member voxonda regarding cleaing up the wheels, he mentions glass bead to clean up the mag.  so, i will stick with the plan to soda blast, then glass bead if needed.

would like to keep the original color, gold spokes and black shoulders.  will probably use resin as i have read on the web.

last week took the back wheel off, but can't get the tire off as it is more thicker and harder than front tire....any idea?

i think these wheels would be a direct swap for a 550, if i can find the right bearings...any thoughts?

Someone loved that bike at some point.  You might get into it and find an electronic ignition or 836 kit or something.

That's what I was thinking but hands full at the moment and no time to do anything on it yet other than took the wheels off. 

The bike has more than 60k miles on the clock, so that tells something
