Been trying to get back in the groove for character design and concepting. I haven't really drawn anything for years so i'm doing quick sketches every day to get myself back into it.
Here's one of my latest. It's basically a 10 minute doodle of a generic SciFi soldier

Here's another quickie.
It's some sort of walker mech thing. I might try sketching out a CB when I get better.

I know how you feel, DavePhipps. I have been educated in old school art stuff; never learned any of computer stuff like adobe illustrator or Photoshop. I have just picked up to learn some illustrator and so far it is freaking aggravating.

Thank for the encouragement.
I'm actually feeling pretty good about my stuff even as rough as it is.
Compared to how I was when I stopped, I'm doing much better at photoshop.
I'm also doing some work in 3d Studio Max. The 3D is going slower than the 2D.

anatomical/figure drawing is always pretty hard. i'd suggest finding a life drawing class or something that you can go to. also, if you have 'em, study up on your anatomy books. it helps to know where all the muscles/bones/tendons connect and how they move.

I still can't draw feet to save my life.

D'h I forgot to reply to you earlier.Gte a Wacom tablet.It helpd somuch for doing digital graphics.Even a cheap bamboo tablet is better than nothing.

I second the Wacom. BTW, Illustrator is one of the standards, and while it can do alot, it is not one of my favorites.

I still have an older verision of Macromedia (currently owned by Adobe) that I use to scetch with an an old Mac.

I'm a vector-child.

Vector art is a mystery to me. I never could control it well enough.
On to my newest try. Made this in sculptris and rendered it in 3dsMax.

Bart I use pencil and paper too. No scanner though so I can't upload those.
Mono, sculptris is so easy that kids can make 3dand have tons of fun doing it.
I'm hoping to get my 2d and 3d skillset back to where it needs to be for when I move back to the Seattle area. I want to leave IT support and work in game development. My life has been an ongoing episode of the IT crowd for over a decade.

Roughing out a concept. Again in sculptris. Actually this is like drawing. I use a wacom pen but instead of drawing lines I'm drawing volumes.

Dave, i also work in IT and was an art major, so i feel your pain on the imperfect career path. Been doing tech support/IT for a little over 10 years (ok closer to 15) myself and i also have plans for a career change.

IT Crowd is right. Except i don't have a hot boss....
