ignition switch part#
« on: July 01, 2006, 05:53:09 PM »
Hello everybody. It seems that the key switch for my american model cb400f has gone kaput and needs replacing. Has anybody got the proper part # for this. I have a parts manual for this but there are a lot of them listed and I would like some clarification on this as the price for a oem one is expensive. Has anybody tried an aftermarket one with good results? Does any other Honda switches from other models work or are these model specific? The bike is a 75 model.
                                                                                         Thanks

I should say so...

"Combination Switch"

Hmmmm...don't you also have helmet/seat lock, and a fork lock too??? Might as well get them all keyed the same...   ;)

...Stock 1972 CL450 'Scrambler' also being re-assembled...

I got a new aftermarket switch for just a little over $10.  It works great, no problems so far over the course of a few years.

same ignition switch as cbx, 550 (77/78) i think. Also you can get just the plastic electrical bit seperate but dealers dont like trying to find it!
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I got one of the Chinese replacement ones (Emgo) and it lasted a bit longer than it took to put it in, not by much.
I fixed the original one and put it back in. The little door for the key doesn't work but otherwise it's great.
I think the key set from DSS or Honda would be worth the $$$. You get all 3 locks and a set of keys, the switch should last another 30 years. (vs 30 minutes for Emgo)
