1979 Kawasaki 1300 six cylinder FINALLY GOT TO SEE IT

I was at the new house(well it will be mine when settlement is made this Friday) and the brother of the present owner offered me a six cylinder 1979 Kawi for the princely sum of 400.  Ran when parked but has a clear PA title. I've only seen a couple in my lifetime- and I worked at a Kawi dealer in the early 80's ??? ???.  No photos and I have not seen the bike but it seems like a no-brainer to me.  That is, if I can even push the damn thing. My recollection is they were very awkward at low speed but once you got going they were smooth as can be. Anyone have any input? Thanks...Larry

It'd be one of those beasts but even beastlier ::) complete with fairing...Probably only weighs in at a mere 600 lbs. or so.  Just guessing, don't really know. As long as the motor isn't seized, it'll probably wind up in my new shop..Larry

Just looked up the specs.  I was off 55 lbs. on the weight-tips the scales at 655 dry :o and only has 120 h.p. ::) ::)  I'll should know within a week if I will be getting it...Larry

120hp is not bad really and the weight is on the lighter side but then the full dress kit would prolly bring it up to that anyway.  My Venture is 800lbs and is only a V4 1200.

Yeah,  that 655 was for the bare bones version, so the fairing and bags should push it close to 750 and 7 gallons of gas will add another 56, so for a sei it  Really :P isn't too bad...Larry

Larry,
    I brought one of those back from sitting in good protected storage...they even drained the carbs before parking it for 18 years.It sure was simple to get it on the road;I ended up shipping it from Cape Cod to Colorado by truck for the man.I took it for a test ride &..it was SOO smooth  ;) I didn't want to come back from my Extended test ride  :) ! Nice Bike for a LONG tour.

PICS!! I'M  partial to the cbx, kinda like the hondas. They have an engineering vision that clicks with me , cars and bikes. Nothing is left out, rip sochiro  :(

I've seen some bikes in trailers that the carbs were real dried out...which is good for scraping off varnish cleanly ! Larry, I'll be heading South the middle of May.

Run away if it is fuel injected. Oh....and use a very large oil pan if you drain the oil. ::)

Not fuel injected as it is the first year.  Just made settlement on the house so I am still trying to find time to get over to the bike...Larry

I was on my way to get some lumber to repair the back door when I finally got a phone call from the owner of the Kawi 6.  Since his garage was fairly close to my destination I went over to finally see the bike. It had been sitting for 10 years and was covered with at least a half inch of dirt and a tank of gas.  I could smell the foul gas within 10 feet of the bike.  The owner had a jump box hooked up,  trying  to see if the motor turned over.   It was locked solid so I had to walk away.  Don't think I would want the bike even if it was given to me.  Shot gas tank, seized motor, frozen front and rear master cylinders, rotted tires.  Probably be as big a money pit as this house.  If anyone is interested (the bike is located 40 miles or so west of Philly) I will pass on the contact info...Larry

What were the cosmetics like Larry? (seat, tank, gauges, fenders, exhaust etc) I've always had a soft spot for those Kawasaki Land Yachts, and at 650 pounds it's still much lighter than my Triomph! ;D

Terry, about the only thing decent were the side covers.  More like a land barge than a land yacht, I thought they were closer to 750 lbs...Larry
