Can someone explain driveshaft on 81 900
« on: September 29, 2012, 09:49:33 AM »
Im still a bit confused on how this sorta 10 gear 2 split shaft drive thing works lol.  I know I got that all.wrong  but can someone explain how it works and I notice there's two shift shaft foot levers on the bike.  How and when do you use it?? What's the purpose? Can it be shifted wrong and something bad happen or ruin the engine somehow?? I picked  up a 81 honda 900 in good condition for 700$ ..was thinkn about cleaning it up and selling for a small profit and or break it down and cafe this one out as well. Any help would be grateful!

Why don't you get a manual and read the manual?
You will need a workshop manual.

The gearbox works like this:
You have one shifting lever the shifts all the gears.

The other shift lever is just one gear. In gear or out.
When shifted "ON" it raises all of the other gears ratios.
The have them on many trucks.

We cant explain it on this page.. that sorta thing is far easier to grasp looking at pics, or line drawings..than in words.

I mostly find that saying things like spiral bevel gear, positive rake,  things like that lose people and leave them more confused..

What?   :D
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

The CB900c is kinda like a 2 speed rearend in a truck!! you can shift into LOW for ripping around town( Better light to light accel) or shift in to HIGH for Hiway cruising. The 900c can EASILY cruise at the ton (100) LOADED.all day long. We have 1 in the garage!!!

MODS!! Shouldn't this be moved to OTHER BIKES????

This thread really needed to be posted in "Other Bikes", or on the DOHC forum.
