Seems like this is the place to sell parts
« on: October 09, 2012, 06:20:25 AM »
I've noticed lately that there seem to be new members joining the forum just to hawk their parts.
We all need the parts, that's the good thing, but if they are here just to make a buck, I don't necessarily like that. I'd like to think everyone here shares the passion of the SOHC and not just the "green" that goes along with it.
What do you think?

BTW, did you see the CB750 for sale for $6500?! (reduced price)

...as long as these guys keep their descriptions and pictures honest and their deals square, I see nothing wrong with it...really hoping the forums lack of rules and guidlines in this department don't result in someone getting burned.  I have bought and sold from and to new guys a couple times, always with positive results
If it works good, it looks good...

Agree with that,  but don't we have a 10 post rule before one can sell? ...Larry

 So what is the alternative?
If they sell on ebay we may pay more, and they are less likely to join up.
I won't complain about getting offered stuff Sooner, rather than Later..

FWIW it wouldn't take long at all to get 10 posts up, so it's not a major hurdle is it? Maybe it's more a case of coming on here and getting known which helps the trust issue. Still, buyer beware, if you think it's a deal go for it.

Some good points brought up. I was/still am trying to sell an oem seat for a goldwing. Instead of ebay I figued the best place to sell it would be the naked goldwings site. After registering for the forums I found that not only do you need X number of posts to post things for sale but there was a whole thread complaining about people registering and quickly doing useless posts just so they could sell stuff. They didn't like that they were only there to sell and didn't really contribute to the community. Now I'm all in favor of being an active member in whatever old bike community but all I wanted was to sell one damn seat to someone who could use it, not become a member of the goldwing community.

This is a good place sell parts. With all the members here there's always someone needed a part to finish up a project or just needing to replace a 40 year old wore out part. I want to trust everyone, but just because a person starts pedaling some sohc4 parts here doesn't mean there honest and there intention are always good. There's always a few bad apples in the bunch just like with anything. In today's time you've got to be careful who you deal with because you can get ripped off quick. If it doesn't seem right it probably isn't.

On the pentaxforums.com website, you have to be a paying site supporter to sell in their forum... Not the perfect solution to the potential dishonest seller problem, but one that helps the site maintain itself, and the donation threshold is low enough to be nominal.

I have more issue with 0 post buyers then 0 post sellers. As was said you, take your chances with these members. The O post buyers are only here to buy a part and it just rubs me the wrong way.

That's a great point roach. Yep, it would bother me a lot if a part came along at a good price and all the people that have been here in support for whatever time get no chance because some lurking vulture dives in and snatches it up.
