1978 cb550 stater replacement
« on: October 16, 2012, 06:22:02 PM »
Does anybody know if a CB500 stater will work in my 550?  I need to replace my stater and am having a hard time fining one that isn't ripped out of another bike. I would like to buy a new aftermarket stater if possible. Also, it seems to me that the 1978 model stands alone from the rest of the 550's out there. I am not sure about this but it is just what I have found during Google searches. I have been able to find rebuilt options but it would be nice to know that I have a new one in the bike. I literally just bought the bike a day ago and the stator is bad. Bummed out because I really want to ride. Any insight would be a huge help as I am new to this forum and new to Hondas. Thanks.

Very odd to have the stator go bad unless a road accident or a wild man with an axe took after it.

But, if you are certain of your diagnosis, any stator from a CB500 or Cb550 will work.  There may be connector differences but the stator itself will swap.

More likely there is something else wrong with your charging system, though.

Stator. The stator is grounding out to the case. All other connections are good including the rectifier and regulator. Thanks for the help.
