Not sure I want to venture into these shark infested waters...but here goes...

I will say that all of the Cafes I have seen on this site have all been quite nice. I am probably at the low end of the spectrum when it comes to ability as a mechanic or fabricator...hell I can barely get/keep my beast running so maybe that's why I am so easily impressed!  ;)

The only advice I will offer on this whole issue is that there might have been a little arrogance in his post but at the same time would any of you who currently build bikes or have a bike business be doing just that if YOU weren't a little cocky?!?! Hell no, you would be slaving away at a job that you need to pay the bills rather than taking the risk involved with building and selling anything to make the rent (just like me!)!

Gotta remember here guys that this site is filled with a different breed of biker. Hell, that's 95% of the reason I come here to read and learn. We are not talking about your average crowd who's biggest accomplishment is bolting on some new chrome on their HD or any other scoot.  JP's new around this site and probably had no friggin clue the kind of calibre that would be on here...most other sites his arrogance (or whatever you want to call it) would likely be justified...

After saying that however, JP, now you know what you are up against here...there is a #$%*load of talent and ability on this site. As far as I am concerned...this is your one freebie...do it again and I won't be backing you up!  ;D  ;D

Dennis,
Thanks for trying to smooth things over a bit.  I know your last line was in good humor, but really, I can't possibly imagine why everyone thinks I'm talking smack.  The one comment that everyone seems to have latched onto was the comment about a $3,000 build.  That comment wasn't even made in this forum,  it was made on ebay.  Even on ebay, it was not meant to belittle anyone.

Now, a comment made outside of this forum when I was trying to sale a product has twisted the panties of so many.  Is this what I can expect?  I am sorely disappointed in this site.  I do understand though, that it is only a select few of the many members that are giving me a hard time, so I will try to let this roll off my back.

I will post pics as I build, hopefully all the #$%*heads will be able to bite their tongues if they think it isn't good or that they can do better because I just don't give a #$%*.  If it isn't positve or at least constructive critisism, I don't want to hear it.  Building cool bikes has been a dream of mine for a while and I am finally in the position to slowly start turning them out.  I will not let the comments of a few stop me from doing just that.

JP,
I just want to emphasize that i have never critisized your bike, nor your talent, in any of my posts.
I´ve welcomed you to the board, said that I really like the bike and I have wished you good luck in your business.
I really mean all of it!

What made me react was this comment in your Ebay-auction:

"if you think you can build a Cafe Racer this good for less money, by all means- go for it.  However, most can't do it and even if they could- they don't have the time".

To me this felt as if people in general got belittled, because I firmly believe that most people can do much more than they and others think.

I truly believe you when you say you didn´t mean to belittle anyone, but thats the way it got interpreted by me.

A misunderstanding happens easily, especially in writing.
That is what I meant with the "I just read what you had written. What you meant to write is difficult to know...."-comment.

Anyway, if this is all a misunderstanding, lets just drop all of it and get on with more important things... like bikebuilding!

I still like the bike and I´m looking forward to see your next build when it´s finished!

Cheers
Daniel (aka one of the "#$%*heads" ;))

Whew!  I thought you guys would never let go of my hips :o   Thanks!
I just got home from my real job and I'm ready to post the pics.  This first one is of the 550 SS  and then the 750 SS with the F2 motor.  It will get everything I can afford, I will hold no loyalties to a vintage look- I want it to perform!  I have a set of cb919 front forks that I am thinking hard on trying to make them work with the stock comstars (the 919 triple trees have the forks set much wider than the stock 750's, I guess I'll use spacers but I'm afraid it will look awkward).  Any ideas on these would be much appreciated.  I chose a 919 setup because it will allow me to still run clubman bars.

Both of these bikes will be completely torn apart by Monday night and the 750 frame will be taken to the powdercoater.  I had planned on a candy blue for it but wasn't ever certain that was right, thanks to you Ohio, I will be getting it nickled.

Let me know your thoughts,
JP
PS- at the bottom is me on my first ever sort-of-cafe build about 3 years ago out of a 1980 DOHC 750.  I know, I know- at least I was trying.

Comparing yourself favorably to Carpy? Carpy's bikes are magnificent, style notwithstanding, his fit and finish are truly a benchmark for any Honda builder.

Yeah, Just make sure you use a vintage fork brace like this one on this bike

Teal, every time I look at your scoot I like it more and more...

I think I have figured out the bike I want to own one day...Teals frame etc. and the engine that I think it was Cheapo who built when he tricked out that 750 to around 1000CC's...that would be sweet! Throw one of those vintage turbo kits on and I'd trade you my first born...

Holy crap! I have a CB550F that looks like it sat outside for 16 years and I was trying to think of how I wanted it to look. I started thinking about making the whole thing silver\polished. That scheme looks better than I thought it would! Mine won't be this nice, but hopefully the color scheme will look as good.

So, the nickel powder coat - Is that the same process as doing say, black powder coat? Are there extra steps involved? Unbelievable....
