best way to remove lodged piece of broken pushrod?!
« on: October 28, 2012, 05:41:15 PM »
Hi All!

My first time posting so here goes! I recently got myself a 72 honda cb500 Four and like many, discovered that my pushrod was split in two and in need or replacing. I was fortunate enough to track down a replacement, which I have learned first hand is indeed next to IMPOSSIBLE! (part is on its way). I was hoping someone could inform me on the best way to get the broken piece of the pushrod out of the bike! I'd like to avoid having to crack open the wet side of the bike. As you can see in the picture below, I popped off the oil seal, though still have a metal plate in the way which is blocking my access to the remaining piece of the pushrod. (anyone know why it looks like a "chunk" is missing from that metal plate?) I literally attempted to crazy glue a piece of balsa wood to the lodged piece of rod in hopes that I could adhere the two pieces together and pull it out, though as soon as I worked the rod forward, it hit that metal plate and would not budge.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I found a detailed thread pertaining to clutch issues (including broken pushrods), though noticed it was an old posting and wasn't sure if it would be seen. Hence the new post!

Just want to get that bugger out of there!

Thank You!

Wont work anyway the pushrod is alloy. Picture res is too low to see details and the only way to get the piece out is to push from the clutch side sorry
