pictures of my new paint job cb750 chopper
« on: October 28, 2012, 07:29:32 PM »
this is in the making it still has 4 more colors to go.the blue is just tape, my son is air brushing the kandy kolors on it.the first 2 are purple and pagan gold.the next is tangerine, oriental blue, and organic green.then shading a small amount of black for depth in areas. i told him to listen to jimi hendrix "voo doo child" and that's what color i wanted to paint it and the design. so this is what he came up with.

3 more pictures before i call it a night. the tear drops are going to be organic green. right now as i type this my son is spraying wild cherry on one of the sides.after the work he has done tonight i think I'm going to give him my amen hard tail frame i picked up this weekend.and help him build a bobber out of it.his buddy was telling me he wanted this paint job to be very good and special.so he deserves it.

Your tank, sir, is the first argument in favor of having children I've ever heard that actually hit a nerve ;)

Seriously, though, that's a gorgeous paint job.

They guy we get our supplies from treats a guy right he let me buy 1/4 pints he usually sells 1/2 pints as the smallest. His normal price is 26.00 a half pint we got for 20.00 plus he gave me a half pint free. my son bought the base and clear and the drugs for 125.00 as of right now we got less than 200.00 in it. My son has so far about 20 hours of his time. Everything he has done was free handed nothing was planned out. He just grabbed some tape and had at it. I'm trying to get him to do this on the side for a little extra cash. Thanks to all you guys who are giving him compliments. It's giving him a push to further his hidden talent. This is his first custom paint job like this.

Yes, he can make money doing that quality of work.  It is a gift, like tattoo, graffiti, or sculpture.  He can have a day job but he needs to develop his talent and make some cash doing it.  My daughter is at Herron art school, Indianapolis.  She loves it, plans to teach.

I have a question for how the gold was put down.  It looks like he did not tape off the purple and just free handed the gold in.  Can this be true?  How on earth could he do that without over spray?  Can you put up a close up pick of that section of the tank?  If he did this without tape he should think about becoming a surgeon.

it was taped. 3m pin striping tape and regular blue body tape.it was all laid down by hand no drawing it out first. the bubbles on the right side where done with cardboard the thickness of a business card same as the blue stripe the rest was taped the bubbles he used the cardboard to out line it the did the rest by hand .it was all done with a binks air brush. he adjusted his air flow on different parts of the tank. there is a spot on the wings he has to touch up. and a few other small places.but this is the finished product. it' gets 5 or more coats of clear.then he starts on the fender this weekend the frame gets torn down and gets painted orange crush pearl every thing gets sent off to be chrome plated. front invader rim, sissy bar, santee electrical box,and the springer front end.the rest I'll buy maybe from cyclex like valve, clutch, stator, and points covers ect ect unless my friend can chrome plate those too.after this is complete my life's work will be done.ever since i was a little boy there are things i wanted when i grew up a lowrider with hydraulics, and a chopper.well i have accomplished both of those and then some.i want to thank you guys again for the compliments on my sons work.he was very excited about that. and he thanks you too.the compliments and positive feedback has him wanting to do this on the side for extra cash.if any body needs some painting done feel free to ask he is getting a web site set up pretty soon.the tank alone has taken him about a week to do,but that was because of the different colors involved. I'm getting ready to have a cb750 tank side covers and headlight bucket done to put in the for sell section.i really want the boy to further his talent. he actually has been painting and fiber glassing stuff since he was 15 he is 23 now. but he has never done anything of this caliber until now. thanks again

the last of the finished pictures.you can see on the wing where he has to touch it up that 3m tape can be brutal sometimes.
