Anybody identify these fork ears?

My friends bike, he picked them up at a swap, doesn't know what they are and I have always been curious. Especially as they are nice cast aluminum and not stamped steel like most of the others.

I would say they were hidden under a fairing. Try Italian bikes.

They look something like the way a 1st gen MAGNA light mounts, very similar bracket!!!
