throttle cable assembly - '78 750F
« on: July 13, 2006, 06:45:03 AM »
well, got the engine in and carbs on last night - but for the life of me i couldn't get both throttle cables hooked up to the throttle grip.

is there some trick to getting those in? rather annoying that i've got the important bit installed, but the throttle cables are holding me back from turning it over.

Both cables on at the grip end first thenput on the cable with no adjustment at the carb end then the one with adjustment (all backed off of course) then do all the adjustments. Its a fiddly job that takes time.

thanks, i'll try it that way.

i should also ask about throttle cable routing. it seems they need to run along the left of the frame - not routed through the middle.. is that correct? anyone got a pic?

they can be run either through the middle or on the left as long as they are not binding.  you'll find that long rounded arcs as opposed to quick turns will be better.

just looked - from the grip - forward and down through the hole created by the top triple and gauge bracket on right side - around the front of the steering tube - back on the left side and just above the left round tank rubber(looks like it could go below also) - under coils - to centerline of bike - through hole in triangular frame gusset and down to carbs
sounds like you're getting close ;D

thanks a bunch guys.

i am getting very close... i wanted to have it running before i left for my trip - but that's tomorrow, and i need to do some more trip prep... so pushing to get the motor cranking tonight would be a tad irresponsible.  that screw-up with the spark plug threads cost me.

not in the cards, i suppose.  i guess i'll have a lot of time to think about the next few steps on the long ride to california... and i'll be eager to get back at it on my return.
