Big Double row bearing on the Final drive shaft
« on: December 22, 2012, 11:48:11 AM »
....the one closet to the drive sprocket.....  is that supposed to spin? Im doing an engine rebuild and mine is locked/doesnt spin. This might be the reason for the chain failure that cracked my case : ugh!

thanks guys

thanks dave! yes my 75 cb750 engine is all tore down...i got the case crack welded pretty good. Must of had a oil/seal issue to have the bearing fail.  need a bearing puller or maybe just give it a good heat cycle, see if it falls off.
tks,mike

All bearings should spin talking inner relative to outer otherwise whats the point of it being there!

hey bryan...  now im confused. Your statement could be read that the inner bearing (#12 of factory parts man) should spin but the outer (13) shouldnt ??

The bearing might have a piece of broken metal stuck in it.

The bearing marked "X"  - doesn't spin.... just need to ensure that it IS supposed to spin. Pretty sure it should but post from Bryan earlier (ex-honda mech.) has me confused.

thanks guys,  Mike

Brians just saying that the outer cage part of the bearing should be stationary, its the center that should spin...

To help with your confusion!!!
Hold the bearing part you have marked with an X and try to turn the gear!!!! If it DOESN'T turn, the bearing is BAD!!!!!

You have an outer race and an inner race with either balls or rollers between them, depending on the fittment one race will stay still and the other will turn on the balls/rollers----thats the whole point of a bearing. Sorry can't thik of a simler way to describe it

thanks guys....  it was my error in the way i was explaining it. The bearing is shot.  There are 2 bearings on the drive shaft----  the smaller one seems fine.... the bigger, double row, one is bad.
