Oil Cooler fittings,top or bottom.
« on: December 25, 2012, 05:47:47 PM »
Just made a deal on a Lockhart that has the ports same side as mounting bracket. The model 700, which also has threaded fittings, can run real braided lines.
There was some talk of the inlet should be on top side , anyone care to explain the reasoning on that, or thoughts.
The last oneof those Ihad I ran it with mounting on bottom, with the hoses going out the bottom, like in the pic.

I've got one on my K1 Frank, I can't see why you can't tip it upside down if you want to, up to you mate. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Merry Xmas gang.I have one of them coolers on my unit.Maybe it is suggested to mount with fittings up so cooler does not drain out on shut down therefore taking extra time to get pressure up on startup.I have mine plumbed into the return circuit as Soichiro intended.  Rock On

I can see the logic about it draining down, though the one on my 460 has the fittings at the bottom and I've not had any particular problems.  Though as the 750 is dry sump, there would be differences in any drain down to consider too.

With the ports on top it will completely fill. That makes it a bugger to drain but it should cool better. With ports down it will never fill completely, some air will remain trapped, and won't cool as well... but it will drain fully.
Anyway I was told they should be ports up or sideways (inlet down). But I've mounted them ports down and I don't think there's any noticeable difference.
