Hi guys,

Ive been lurking the forum for a little and decided to post up my build. Its 1980 CB650 I picked up last summer with 8,000 miles on the OD. I went with a bobber build and cut the back off the bike and installed 11" shorty shocks to bring it down a bit. I bought a sporty tank and fabbed it up to fit the CB frame and had a buddy help me base it black and lay down some Roth tangerine metal flake for an old school feel. I went with new smaller gauges and TC Bros 12" ape hangers and I had Barnetts make me new cables to fit. I installed all the electrical switches on the headlight bucket to clean it up a little. I'm also running TC Bros forward controlls along with the linkage kit. I started to polish some of the pieces on the motor and will continue untill shes nice and purdy. I still need to finish the back of the bike and build a new seat base. I got my license plate and brake light fabbed up and installed, I just need to pull out my powder coating set up and lay some powder and bake it up along with a few other small parts. Its getting closer to being done so tell me what you think.

Aw man that looks great! I'm building a dohc 750 for A guy and its hard to fab the ugly out of the later model bikes that Honda went cruiser with-you did great. The tank paint looks awesome!

I was a little skeptical at first when i saw how the back bone of the frame looked, but I'm glad I stuck with the bike and its turning out pretty well so far.

That is one good-looking machine! I love the bobber look.

I've been contemplating making one out of my '81 Kawasaki KZ440 LTD. This is inspiring.

That paint looks great. I like the dropped rear, it looks so clean, too clean.....no front brakes?

I am in the fence about the front brake, for safety reasons its a great idea to put it back on but it looks so much cleaner without it........

Started on the side panels, time to wet sand and lay down the pin stripe followed by more clear.

Here's a little update on where I'm at. I did a little more polishing on the motor. I also ran the wires for the clutch internally for a little cleaner look. I need to get a few more 10amp fuses since I blew a few trying to figure out my brake light wiring but I do believe I have my new start and on/off switches installed correctly. I should have another update when my DimeCityCycles order shows up.

Got the rear of the bike welded up this morning, my dime city cycles package arived but it was to loud in the garage so I missed the mail man! Bummer, I'll have to wait till Monday.

Now I just need to paint it.

This is very similar to how I want my chopped 650 to look. The only real difference is I'm keeping a short rear fender. Great minds think alike, eh?

Got the last piece of the motor polished up, now all I need to do is the fork legs.

Started her up! Hasn't been started in 6 months, adjusted the valves and cam chain. I don't really know what slappy valves sound like but does this sound ok? Idle is good, I let it warm up about 8 minutes and it still seems like when I try to blip the throttle it bogs a little.

When we built my house I wanted a large garage for all my toys so one entire side is a drive through garage and the other side stops about 30' in, one self contained bedroom/bathroom on bottom floor and all living is on the second floor.

im not into the 80's bikes, and the 650 stock just doesnt appeal to me, but i would def ride your build!!

Thanks for the kind words guys, I got my license plate/ tail light bracket fabed up and got a chance to this afternoon to powdercoat it. So as she sits now its basically done I only have a few small things left then its a waiting game till spring!

Thanks, its coming together better than I had imagined. There is still a few small things to finish but overall shes complete.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about running my front brake but I don't like the bulkiness of the stock master cylinder. Does anyone know if there are any discrete master-cylinders available that will work with the stock brake caliper? Since I'm running apes I'm sure I'll need a custom brake cable made as well. Let me know your thoughts and if you might know of a slick setup.

G'day Sean, sorry to hi jack your thread but I've been attempting to get some answers from the guys at dime city cycles but I think there might be some sort of language barrier goin on cause none of his replys have helped me out. I'm aslo looking for a sleaker looking MC that won't affect braking with the stock caliper on my cb750 k3 single rotor setup. Have you had any luck with what you've been looking for?
