Where to get parts for my cb750 1974 ?
« on: January 01, 2013, 11:34:59 AM »
Hello Bikers..

I'm a young guy (24) and I'm brand new to this forum. I'm located in Denmark(europe) and I'm restoring/modifying a Honda cb750 1974. In My Daily job I work as a mechanic so i do all the work on my bike myself.

I Have had my Honda for 2 years now and I Love it!! Always had a thing for "old" Stuff, and the Honda is so nice! Friends laugh at me with their plastic bikes but i don't care. Sadly it leaks oil guiet bad, so I have decided to rip it apart.

I want to do a Cafe Racer, with a front end from a Boldor with twin disk but with cb750 Wheels.

So here is a cuople of questions i hope you could help me with:

1: I want a bit more power out of the machine, it needed a new headgasket anyway so i thought of some more cc's (836?), valvesprings and a new cam ? Is there other things you will go for first? Where is the best place to buy parts?? I have thought of CycleX, but is the quality ok?? And ofcurse i needed new gaskets and O-rings  to all over the engine, where can I get good quality ??

2: Is there Any "Must do's" when the engine is apart anyway? I had read in here something about modyfying clutch "gear" with som more oil holes, other things to do ??

3: The oil pump is guiet damaged, maybe i can post some pics in here. I Think i Need a new one or at least one in good condition, where can i get one??

That was something to start on :) Hope you guys can provide some good advices so i can ride my bike with pride in the spring :)

Regards Tommy Hummel

Welcome, Hummel!

I also have a K4 and it has been bored to 836, runs fantastic. Cycle X sells good parts but have you seen the 836 kits on eBay?

Porting the head will help as well.

Here is a good thread for you to start your research...

Definitely would recommend Hondamans book.  Here is the original thread http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=65293.0

You can get all of the original manuals, parts catalogs, technical manuals n this site for free.  The Hondaman book brings it all together and up to date in terms of whats currently available, what you will have to find on your own and the merits of the performance upgrades.  I have a '75 CB750F and elected not to do the more expensive performance upgrades but did ALL of the low cost performance upgrades Mark Paris (Hondaman) recommends in his book.

I want to do a Cafe Racer, with a front end from a Boldor with twin disk but with cb750 Wheels.

hate to break it to you but this is almost impossible to do (ok maybe not impossible if you have a machine shop and large billets at your disposal). The stock cb750 wheel is a 6 bolt pattern and the wheel for the 900F/bol d'or is a 5 bolt setup. Why is that important? because the caliper spacing, rotor thickness and rotor diameter are different between the two setups. You won't be able to mix and match unless you are ready to machine your own brackets to adapt the cb750 calipers to the 900F/ Bol D'or fork legs, and that is not an easy bracket to make because of the swing caliper design. If you want to use your wheel you will need a 1975-1977 GL1000 gold wing front end, it is the same 37mm diameter as the 1979-80 900f but uses the same 6 bolt spoke rim as the cb750 with a different caliper and rotor setup.

New oil pumps are pure fantasy. Used is your only option.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
