reliability of ebay gasket set?
« on: January 07, 2013, 05:35:17 AM »
purchased an ebay engine gasket set that includes base gasket & head gasket.. unfortunately didn't do enough research before purchasing. anyways, its a paper style headgasket and its got the name d&k printed on it. have you guys had issues with these ebay gasket sets? i'm debating whether or not to purchase cycle -x's gasket kit, but thats some $$$, although i do need the crank shaft seal & transmission shaft seal from the kit

There are numerous gasket kits on eBay so don't know what you have. But most of eBay stuff is questionable to say the least. There are known reputable sellers out there other forum members have had good experience with.

I don't think its an issue with the distribution channel in your case eBay.  Many quality stores use eBay its a matter of attracting buyers, that's all.  Obviously there are scammers on eBay as ANYONE can sell on eBay.  I'm thinking Cycle-X has an eBay store, many of the forums"recommended" suppliers have eBay stores that's were allot of vintage motorcycle affectionatoes are going to be shopping.

I think the question is has anyone used this DK head-gasket and what are the pros and cons?

Also the seal kits are readily available without ordering the entire gasket set.

Here is the place for the seal kit ($40) Dynoman Performance in Austin, TX http://www.dynoman.net/bikepages/sohc/oe.html its above halfway down the page "Engine Seal Kit."

And yes Cycle-X http://www.cyclexchange.net/ is a reputable dealer.
