A stud extractor is a great tool for removing studs.
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

Drop the tubes off the bike you can work on them better I think.

...works like a charm...i'v used it to remove exhuast head studs (77/78 heads) and cylinder block studs...

That stud puller is a miracle tool.  Has saved me from a couple of potentially unpleasant situations.

What is a fork cap stud?
After much puzzlement from thinking about the fork tube top cap and where a stud might be in there, I decided the stud is at the bottom for attaching the axle clamp cap.
