float bowl ?
« on: July 14, 2006, 07:48:22 PM »
Hey All,
I started messing with my 76-77 750F and the #4 carb is leaking as soon as I turn the gas on out the little tube on the right.I'm guessing float stuck. So I go to drain the bowl and cant see a drain screw. Well it is pointed in and on the left side of the carb. Should I swap the bowls or just leave them so they stay sealed. I hate braking old seal if I dont have to. Should I just drain it and try to free up the needle by shooting carb cleaner in there? If it doesnt I'll be pulling the bowls. I didn't think you would be able to swap the 2 outside carb bowls.

I dunno about your bike, but on some carbs mixing up the float bowls can be a problem...

On my bike (400F), each carb body is numbered (1, 2, 3...) and the bowls should be mounted with the drain plugs to the outside (1 and 2 mounted to the left, 3 and 4 to the right when seated on the bike).

I'd guess they got FUBAR'd at the last carb cleaning and that another carb's bowl has a drain plug facing the wrong way. Then again, you might have a 1 or 2 carb switched to #4.

the PO fubarred it up. On the 2 outer carbs the drain screw are both facing in towards the engine not outward.

my #1 float bowl does not have a drain screw on it....the other 3 do though. I thought that was strange.
