Help! All Balls wheel bearing seal identification
« on: February 05, 2013, 05:23:45 PM »
I could not for the life of me get my old wheel bearings out so after hours of frustration I took them down to my local motorcycle shop to have them taken out. The guy insisted I bring my new bearings down for inspection and after telling him that I was sure I could get the new bearings in, I return to find he had already installed them.

HOWEVER, he left three seals in the same container. So I have no idea which seals these are or where they are supposed to go. Can anybody give me a guess on what these are?

I guess it's possible I don't use some of the seals since the bearings are made for multiple bikes? Any help is appreciated

My best guess is that the one in the middle of the top picture goes on the brake side and seals around the spacer. The one on the left is possibly the seal that the mechanic removed from the side with the speedo drive.  The one on the right is what All Balls sent you for the speedo drive but it is not correct.  The old seal looks to be in decent shape so just reinstall it and call it good.

All 3 of the seals are new. Keep in mind the seals are for the front OR the rear wheel. I think I'm going to have to end up calling all balls and asking someone. I'm looking on their site and can't tell from the small pictures what seals come with what bearing kit

Some seals kits cover multiple bikes they could be for other applications. Just a guess

What year and model bike are we talking about?   Front or rear?   Have you tried to see if they fit?

I'm fairly confident that the one on the left goes on the rear, the middle one on the brake side, and I could be wrong but I think the one on the right is incorrect for the speedo drive.  On my 72 500, the OD was correct but the ID was much too large.

I just happen to have a set of All Balls bearings on the workbench. The 30-5006 and 30-3601 come in the front wheel set. The other seal should have been marked 30-5502 and is in the rear wheel set.
