Exhaust rings
« on: February 15, 2013, 03:56:52 PM »
This info may be somewhere else on the sight but I'm gonna ask anyway my 77 750f had an aftermarket pipe on it which had its original mounting rings replaced with a set that were attached to the pipe. So when the pipe rusted out I replaced it with another that doesn't have the rings attached so I thought I would cut some out of aluminum but I need the correct ID and OD and bolt spacing so if anyone knows please help

Is it just the round crush gasket ring you need.?   Set of 4 is cheap to just buy without the hassle.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-CB750-SOHC-EXHAUST-GASKETS-/200880551082?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec569f4aa&vxp=mtr

So you need a set of exhaust clamps for a spigot type exhaust system? You need some beefy clamps not sheet metal straps more or less

If so pm about it I have another set

Being a 77 it should not use the spigot style.

How thick is the clamp?

That will prob determine if you are gonna heat cycle them to death. My eyeball measurement would say 3/8" or thicker would make a suitable flange atleast minimum. They gotta be thick to dissipate that heat

Did you change the gaskets? If no, they will most likely leak.

The pipe that was on the bike when I got it had some stamped steel clamps that couldn't be removed from the pipe I ended up cutting them off and using the two halves to hold the inserts in. That worked great for almost two years I just wanted something that was a little more attractive

Wonder if the fact that the stock clamps are a finned heatsink would help keep down the temps a little around the exhaust valve area of the head. Probably not enough to make any difference but something for our engineer types to ponder. Hmmm

+1  Just wondering just how much the stock joints work to keep the headers cool. The fins give it quite a bit of cooling area that a flat washer lacks. I'd think blued pipes would be a result, at least (although yours are wrapped),
