Ruined carb top - Now what?
« on: July 19, 2006, 01:09:26 PM »
So I made my first F-up  >:(  In a hurry I put one of my carb tops into the chem-dip and I ruined the rubber seal for the for the carb top.  I'm pretty sure this is not available so I guess I have to buy a new carb top?  Does anyone know if these are available?  I am trying to search on servicehonda.com but the schematic is not coming up so I can't see what part # is for what part.

These carbs are from a 1976 CB750.  This is what you get when the wife is at the door saying coming we're leaving :P

Thanks for the help!

Are you talking about the seal under the top cap? If so, is it rubber or a fiber? It probably is still available. If it is rubber, then you just need to get an o-ring aboutthe same size to put on. It does not come in contact with gas so any rubber should be fine. Otherwise, most quality carb kits have them too but then you get a whole kit which is expensive but the bright side is that you have parts for later.

MRCycles.com has very similar and easier to use fiche pages.  Identical for my '77 550K.

http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_select.asp

Select "Honda Motorcycle Parts" on the left side, supply the year and make then select the schematic you need and POOF! schematic with part numbers, quantity needed and MRC prices is there for your shopping pleasure!

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

No, its not the seal under the cap...it's the seal around the hole on the top where the threaded rod for the throttle slide extends through.  On the carb top there is a hole about 1/8" diameter with a rubber seal around it.  From the low resolution carb schematic I found it seems to be part of the carb top:
05 TOP SET 16014-300-014  004 $37.52

$37...Ouch.  Does anyone have any ideas how to come accross one of these?  Does anyone have a trashed carb that I could scavenge the top for less than that price?
