What does the last number mean?
« on: March 22, 2013, 09:27:20 PM »
When you are referring to your bike as a CB750k3 or a CB750K7...what does the last number mean?  My son and I are trying to bring a 78 CB750k back from the dead as his first bike.  We got it to run today but it is in need of a bunch more love.  I think some baffles will now be first on the list after hearing it with none!  My ears are still ringing and we had ear plugs in.  Boy I love it when they fire up for the first time but just have to wonder what the PO was thinking when they did what they did to this bike.  I wish I had all the parts that were removed and chucked...what a shame.  Thanks for the help on this question as it has just been bugging me.

Here’s how American Honda describes the CB750 K-series:

CB750 “K0” indicates the first model in a series. As updated versions were introduced K1,K2, K3, etc... were used to indicate new models. Frame and engine serial numbers are used to identify the model.

The "K" numbers of the 750s matching the model year is just a coincidence due to K0 being made in '69-'70.  The other sohc4s don't follow the same pattern.  My 1976 550K is a K2.
