Vortex sidewinder exhaust ...opinions?
« on: March 24, 2013, 05:55:29 AM »
Does anyone have experience with Vortex exhaust systems?  They are supposed to be from the 70s but I can not verify that.  The sidewinder header pipes appear to have nice radius bends and the collector looks well tapered, similar to an RC sidewinder.  Looking for info on whether they were well made, etc.

Any info on these exhausts or the "Vortex" company in general would be appreciated.

George

There is a Voertex Exhaust company in the UK but I doubt it is one of theirs, they only do car exhausts.

I've posted the pics on another forum, perhaps someone will know.

There is a Motorcycle parts company in the US called Vortex but they are mainly MX parts supplies.

Any USA pipe and megaphone builder could copy a OEM RC PIPE for about $1400 - $1700 with a baffel that will come out. If you want that TRUE RC look then you will have to pay, could be made in JAPAN by a company I know that would be better than the old school bend and weld. Ask SCHNITZ if they could get you a custom made pipe for your purist built bike. Good luck findind a new RC PIPE for the 750 HONDA SOHC. I do have a new in the box STAR RACING pipe for a KZ1000 that I bought years ago, a rare find now a days and they do not make them anymore.

How about asking Dennis Murray....he used to make 750 pipes if I remember correctly. Real nice fella too.

I'd like to hold out and locate a set of RC sidewinders ultimately.  In the meantime, I'd consider something like the Vortex unit to check the fit and hold me over until then.
