2 part rear 550F fender question
« on: April 11, 2013, 08:54:26 AM »
I have a 2 part rear fender question:

How is the rear fender attached on a 77 550F? The rear fender on mine is attached through the signal light bolts alone. Along the rear grab handle a couple of support brackets have been attached but both welds are broke. I am not sure if this is the stock setup or not. I am having problems with the rear fender pivoting down toward the tire, which I dont think it should do. The bike had a backrest when I got it that was attached at the shock mounts and the rear light, which is how I suspect the welds broke, as it put downward pressure on the fender. Is there bolts that go into the fender through the raised rear frame hoop? Can I just reweld the rear grab handle as well?

The second part of my question seems pretty basic now that I type it, but how is the wiring to the tailight/brakelight properly routed? Mine takes an odd path that puts it in several pinch points. It actually goes out and around the fender after coming through the plastic/rubber grommet. It seems lke it should just go straight into the metal tube right?

This is the underside of the fender.
How do I get the wire with the bulllet conectors through that short metal tube without cutting them off?

part one: There are two special shouldered bolts that go down through the "raised rear frame hoop" and screw into the welded nuts in the fender support seen in the underside photo you posted.
part two: Wire routing looks mostly correct. They will come out but only one at a time and very gently.
